Everything I've heard and read is that he hasn't progressed as a player since we drafted him.

I wouldn't mind him coming over to camp but I don't want him being guaranteed a roster spot.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
Is Kris Clack still hopeful of making this team as well...  :)

Makes perfect sense to me.

Currently, we have zero young prospects.  We know we need to develop some, as does Danny Boy.  I think Danny is perhaps planning a hockey-style 3-line team for next year:

The starters, who...um...start.

The bench, who continue to play their 15 minutes as a unit.

Then #11-15, including 2 draft picks, Erden, and the 2 guys signed to non-guaranteed deals, who will spend most of their time in Portland getting better and learning how to play together.

Genius...pure genius.

Vitaly was one of my favorite players.

I think he fits right in with the two guys they picked up at the end of the season (I am drawing a blank on their names).  Danny knows that they are going to need to fill in the end of their roster with some new young guys next season, so right now, he is building up a pool of guys to try out for those spots.  It would make sense that Erden would be one of them to get a shot.  He is not such a good prospect that they are going to want to hold onto him forever in case he decides to come over, so they want to take a look at him now, to see how he reacts to playing in America.  Worst case scenario, they cut him in the preseason, and he just goes back to Europe.

I wouldn't expect any more from him than I would expect from those other guys they got to try out their suits for the playoffs, but it will at least give us something to talk about this summer, when we are taking a break from the bigger roster news.

Semih Erden, 2010/2011 camp fodder.

How do you figure he would demand that kind of money?  This is not a guy who is making a fortune as a star in Europe.  He will be lucky to get any guaranteed money, and it will likely just be for the rookie minimum.

How do you figure he's better then Sheldon?  Aside from the fact that it's hard to be much worse then Sheldon of course.
