So I was scrolling on NBA on ESPN.com, and saw this Finals MVP article by Hollinger. I was excited to read it thinking it was going to statistically, (since Hollinger loves numbers and stats) rate and review each player on the C's who could most likely get the MVP award if we win tomorrow night.

But to my surprise, it was a long article explaining why Kobe should win if the Lakers win OR lose. And yea, I know it only happened once where the loser in the finals won the MVP trophy, but if this happens, (though Kobe has been the best), I'll be very mad.

It went on to explain how ironic it would be if Kobe was to get it seeing how Jerry West was the only one to, (West is Kobe's idol) and that it was against the C's, AND that that C's team was a veteran team winning only 48 games in the regular season but still making it to the playoffs.. Are these just coincidences? Or is there anything to it?

What do you guys think? How would you feel if this was to actually happen?
And which Celtic do you think so far depending on the last 5 games deserves it if we were to win?

This is through ESPNInsider, so if you don't have a subcription it'll be hard to read it. But if you do, here's the link:

It could happen, mainly because the C's have 4 candidates at this point. None have played well in all the games, or even a bare majority.

Hopefully KG/Pierce/Rondo will play well enough in the close out game tomorrow to get the votes to win the award. If not, *shrug*, all I care about is the banner.

It would be great because that finals MVP really ticked off West, who didn't want it cause his team lost. He never fully recovered from that until the '85 series. If this effects Kobe for another 16 years than its a good thing.

Very true. I know West won it back in the day but if it happens again! Wow.

Lol that would certainly make the other players on the Lakers feel like complete losers.

Although the banner is most important, The Bill Russell Trophy going to a Laker after a Celtic championship would sting a bit.

That would be Kobe's 2nd Russell Trophy too.

hey, if we win the title, who cares. fact is, none of our players has dominated like kobe has - of course, that's by design, but whatever. there are enough parallels between this team/series and the 68-69 squad...this would be yet another one if it went down (and, i suspect kobe will be the mvp, no matter what the outcome).

Does anyone know how the finals MVP is chosen/how the voting works?

Yea, I know the Banner is waaaaay more important and all that counts, but it still would bother me, (even if he deserves it) I dislike Kobe THAT much, that I want him to go home with nothing... nothing at all...

I think Pierce separated himself in the last game just a bit. If he plays a big Game 6 in his hometown and I suspect he will then he wins it.
