In a podcast distributed to his union membership, NBA Players Association executive director Billy Hunter called commissioner David Stern’s claims that the league has suffered losses of $400 million “inflated and inaccurate.”

Hunter is trying to rally the players against a commissioner and ownership that he believes is determined to stage a lockout during the 2011-12 season to deliver unprecedented givebacks and cost certainties with a new collective bargaining agreement.

“We believe that the NBA owners may have actually been profitable over the past several seasons,” Hunter said in the podcast obtained by Yahoo! Sports.

Oh man, the last line of this story says it all. It's pretty much like: "We think the owners have actually made money!" Business owners should turn a decent percantage of the profit! What about the players!? have they been profitable? Forget the self inflicted overhead!

This lockout is going to drive me crazy if it happens. The players need to realize the economic situation and give a little back. I'm against a hard cap, but maybe a hard look at years and max is in order.

I agree. Max money is absolutely ridic at this point. at least more partially guaranteed contracts should be considered.

No one can yet explain to me why owners can't stop themselves from spending money they don't have.

Because most people are idiots and owners are people, too.  Money doesn't cure stupidity.

Spend money to make money right? Playoff teams get a larger share right? Winning creates a stronger fan base and sells more merch too.

They have the money, they just want guaranteed profits.

The Players what guaranteed contracts are you surprised the Owner's want an equivalent salary structure?
