I just realized that Phil Jackson has never been in a game 7 in the NBA finals. I personally think that all these stats are meaningless at times but this could be a counter to the 47-0 stat, along with the Celtics having a favorable record when up 3-2.

Do you think this will have an effect?

Tuesday's game is game 6, not 7, so I don't really understand your point... because if the Celtics take care of business Phil Jackson still won't have played into a Finals game 7 once the series is over.

And he won't be in a game 7 this series either. ;D

The so-called Phil Jackson stat is somewhat meaningless because it's a game one curiosity.

For the finals, here are the important issues ...

1) Games 1 and 2 need to be split. That's been done.

2) Game 4 needs to be won for a 2-2 series. If Game 4 is lost, the team who's up, 3-1, always wins. Now, that effect has been neutralized.

3) If Game 5 is won, after the 2-2 split, then that winner usually wins it all

Now, the Celtics have the above in order and thus, the pendulum swings back to some mythological Phil Jackson stat of Game 1 but with no Game 7 experience whereas Auerbach and Co has been there several times.

I say, sorry about it and let's win it all in LA!

Good points! I just thought that it would be interesting to mention that should this series go 7, nobody on either team would have the experience going for them.

Boston are 17-0 when getting that 3rd win, so one of these records will be nothing but history in future NBA record books. I'm thinking Phil's and on Tuesday  ;)

I don't think that is entirely a true statement if you count his playing days in New York backing up Willis Reed. I think that was 1970 but I was focused on hockey back then. I started following Reverend Johnny Most full time on WBZ radio after the 1969 season. Scary - That makes me a Forty year career Celtics basketball fan.

The beatings will continue until morale improves

It's an interesting curiousity stat, but I have to agree it will be moot because THE CELTICS MUST WIN GAME 6.  I don't like their chances in a Game 7 in Staples Center regardless of Phil's lack of experience in that situation.

That's not quite true.  Although the C's didn't play in a 7th game in 2008 finals, they played in quite a few game 7's in the prior 2 years.  Not too sure if the Lakers have but this cast of C's definitely has and only came up short against ORL last year.
