I've been thoroughly impressed with is play since the 2nd round.  He's playing like one of the best big men in the game. Seriously, WOW!

Has he earned his contract?  Well, if he had a two month conract, then yes, but he didn't.  He's certainly earned his playoff paychecks, but he flat-out stole $5.5 million of Wyc's money during the regular season.

They didn't sign him for the regular season.  They signed him for the playoffs.

How is that not making excuses for 7 months of lazy, uninspired play?  Coming in out of shape?  Did he get those millions for a 7-month training camp?  No.  If he only wanted to play in the playoffs, then he should've sat out until the ASB like PJ did, then sign the FA deal when he was ready to play.

Pay $5.5 million freakin' dollars to walk through the regular season, and it's okay?  No, it is not.

Am I thrilled with his playoff performance?  You bet.  But I don't have amnesia, either.

Success for this team is defined by the playoffs, not the regular season.

Would it have been nice to get more bang for the buck in the regular season?  Of course.

But Wallace was brought to Boston for the playoffs.

Brought in for the playoffs in October?

You are far, far to generous.  It's not like he needed to save his energy, since he played less than 20 minutes/game, is it?  It's not like he needed to learn to fit in, since boxing out and rebounding are rather elementary and would have helped quite a bit.

He was brought in, obviously, to make the team better and because he would help against bigger teams in the playoffs, but that is no defense for his lethargic play in the regular season--which he signed on and was paid (well) to play for.

Yeah, I like him in the playoffs, but there is no excuse whatsoever for his play in the previous 82.

It is not an excuse for how he played.  Everyone on here would say it was terrible in the regular season.

But he got his contract to help this team in the playoffs win a title.  If the Celtics win the title, his play in the playoff means he lived up to his contract.

The results would be there for when it mattered.

I believe when we told him we needed him to help beat Cleveland, Orlando and LA, he took it literally to mean we only needed him for those teams. That's the only explanation I have for his revival in the semis. I'm impressed with what he's doing especially with the back issues.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Man, even when Sheed does something good, and we're 1 win away from an absolutely shocking title, he still gets dumped on.

Sheed was embarrassingly bad for ~80% of the regular season, but this was a good contribution in the most important game of the year.  The story of the series has been our bigs wearing down theirs, and he's been a big part of that.  I wasn't happy to have him much this year but I'm happy to have him now.

No Celtic player was signed for the playoffs only.  He was embarrasingly bad throughout the regular season but I'm sure loving how he is playing now.

I have to lean with More Banners here. I would feel much better if the C's were up 3-2 with two games at home than on the road. Sheed's lack of play during the regular season is part of why they don't have homecourt.

But - I forgive easily if banners are hung. And I think his lack of impact was overstated - he was signed as an MLE big man, whether or not he lived up to his talent, he might have lived up to that type of paycheck for a 7 footer in the regular season.

The question here is simple: if he had played like this during the entire season, would he have been able to give us the same effort in the playoffs?

Dude's 35. You can't have it all.

I don't see him playing this way all season would have made the Celtics 8 games better.

Not with the other regular season issues of other players also under performing at times and being injured.

Not to mention that he's been playing through a lot of injuries this post season.

I have my doubts that Rasheed's body, especially with the shape he keeps it in, can play at this level of effort for a full NBA season.

Time to unleash some Sheed love:

The guy without his beard and a few pounds lighter is downright handsome.  He looks fantastic!  He looks 27!

Boy did I rail against him earlier in the season....and boy do I love him now!

Go Sheed!!!

I agree about the intensity and the minutes being an issue during the season... however some of his play was simply "I just don't care level."

Like I said - it doesn't take that much to be an MLE level big man. Rasheed had the 38th best PER in the league (a lot of the damage coming from his jacking and missing of 3pters.) But he played OK D, and gave credible size off the bench behind Perk, meaning KG never had to regularly guard the tall bigs. He also provided enough spacing on offense to let the C's do their thing. At his age, should we really have expected more? I don't think that means he didn't dog it (bad shots, not caring, being out of shape), but I don't know what the C's should expect out of an MLE big man other than that. The fact that he turned it up a notch in each playoff series is really a bonus. He's getting older, his PER has been trending down anyways, he went from a starter to a bench role (which usually has an impact), and he's always had the attitude problems. Maybe the error was on fans for expecting more?

I was wondering to myself last night: does 2 months of A - playoff Sheed make up for 6 months of D - regular season Sheed> I don't know. It sure feels like it now.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.
