The media can compare Fisher to Mother Teresa for all I care, just as long as he's crying tears of pain when the series is over.

A guy might be a nice guy off the court and a complete prick on it.  KG's probably a good example of this too; Perk too.  Fisher doesn't have to be a choirboy while he's playing to be a good person in his life as a whole.

I hate Fish for the series, and I don't like the cheap stuff he gets away with, but guy's a player.  Closest thing to Bruce Bowen in the league right now.

Fisher is one of the dirtiest players in the NBA. In my opinion flopping equals dirty, it undermines the game.

TP - Flopping degrades the game.  I wouldn't compare Fisher to Bowen.  Bowen has proven to be a great guy off the court.

Unlike what seems to be the prevailing thought here, I don't think he's that good a guy off the court either.

He basically screwed Utah to go back to LA.  He cheats both on and off the court.

Hmm Fisher prob is a nice guy off court...but to put him and Ray Allen in the same sentence when talking about being the nicest guys....that is just a no-no.

Ray Allen is pure class on and off the court. Fisher on the other hand is a very dirty player.

Basketball is a metaphor for life. If you're a bad guy on the court more than likely you are that way off the court.

I agree with regard to how you treat your teammates, but not how you treat your opponents during the game.  Or several of our own guys would fail your test.

I hate guys who make up contact or exaggerate normal picks, etc., to get the call.
You hate Pierce and Rondo?!

I hate it no matter who does it.

If teams were allowed to McHale or Malone floppers, it would police itself.

The crap didn't go on nearly as much when players policed themselves.

I agree with the notion that a lot of what you show on the court correlates to what type of person you are off the court. Like I said in the original post, Fisher's cheap shots are COLD. I mean that in the sense that they're not reasonable, heat-of-the-moment responses that nice guys can have, but calculated blows of revenge (or sometimes, instigation).

Yeah, Perkins might scowl, get T'd up all the time, etc. But that's not hateful, that's just him being a tough guy. It's part of his on-court persona. When Fisher laid into Scola, that wasn't part of any image/persona/tougness... that was done out of pure spite.

Not to mention (though this isn't exactly scientific) sometimes I just get a vibe about somebody's character that I barely know, and my vibes tend to be correct. Fisher definitely gives me one of those vibes. In fact, he's the only guy on the Lakers that gives me that vibe. Something about him just has "jerk" written all over it

edit:

And for what it's worth, I'll readily admit that there are some players on the Celtics who probably aren't the nicest people (though I still love them). I get the vibe Rondo is probably a a jerk, along with Big Baby. To the surprise of no one, I'd also conjecture that KG probably has a temper. Other than that though I'd say the rest of the team appears to be pretty chill.*

*so says my entirely unscientific vibe-o-meter that judges people I've never even spoken a word to, haha

I 100 % dislike Bruce Bowen as a person. You are not being a good person if you slide your foot underneath a shooter's foot on purpose hoping that he lands on it or at the least becomes afraid to land on it. He's dangerous. I could never in a million years even fake doing that to someone. It's dangerous and cowardly. Sometimes, acts like these DO speak to who you are off the court.

haha I agree, it was him and Ray that got into a scuffle they were like "2 of the nicest guys in the NBA..." I'm thinking yea right Fisher is dirty.

glad Doc called out his flopping, on picks and screens you would think he got hit by car

Any idea of what was said between them? I can't remember the play that lead to the talking between them, but Ray certainly had a foul taste in his mouth after whatever wisher did to him.

Unless the definition of nice guy changes I'd never use those words to describe Fisher who is one of the players I hate most in the league because he's both one of the biggest cheapshots and floppers. I feel you almost have to be one or the other - they're not compatible ideologically. You can't be making dirty little plays on one end and then overreact to the slightest contact on the other. I mean who does stuff like this?

Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Absolutely agree 100%.  This might be a little extreme, but it's like putting Saddam Hussein and FDR in the same group.
