Basketball is a metaphor for life. If you're a bad guy on the court more than likely you are that way off the court.
I agree with regard to how you treat your teammates, but not how you treat your opponents during the game. Or several of our own guys would fail your test.
I agree with the notion that a lot of what you show on the court correlates to what type of person you are off the court. Like I said in the original post, Fisher's cheap shots are COLD. I mean that in the sense that they're not reasonable, heat-of-the-moment responses that nice guys can have, but calculated blows of revenge (or sometimes, instigation).
Yeah, Perkins might scowl, get T'd up all the time, etc. But that's not hateful, that's just him being a tough guy. It's part of his on-court persona. When Fisher laid into Scola, that wasn't part of any image/persona/tougness... that was done out of pure spite.
Not to mention (though this isn't exactly scientific) sometimes I just get a vibe about somebody's character that I barely know, and my vibes tend to be correct. Fisher definitely gives me one of those vibes. In fact, he's the only guy on the Lakers that gives me that vibe. Something about him just has "jerk" written all over it
edit:
And for what it's worth, I'll readily admit that there are some players on the Celtics who probably aren't the nicest people (though I still love them). I get the vibe Rondo is probably a a jerk, along with Big Baby. To the surprise of no one, I'd also conjecture that KG probably has a temper. Other than that though I'd say the rest of the team appears to be pretty chill.*
*so says my entirely unscientific vibe-o-meter that judges people I've never even spoken a word to, haha
