Obviously who wins the series, and who steps up for the remainder of the series will help determine who wins the MVP, but the way things are going, if the C's win this thing, who on earth is the MVP? 

Even just looking at the first 4 games, who do you give it to?  The Celts have had a ton of guys step up, but they've had some big disappearing acts too.

I'd say the bench deserves a collective MVP nod so far.

Oh, and if the unthinkable happens, it's all Kobe's.

If LA wins, I give it to Pau. He's been their most consistent player this series. At times, downright dominant.

If Boston wins, give it to Rondo... Not that great this series, but he's the most deserving for his overall playoff performance so far.

Yeah, Rondo has probably been the best player for the Celtics. I thought Ray Allen could have been the series MVP but he has a lot of work to do to make up for these subpar performances to get there.

For the Lakers, I think Kobe has a slight edge over Gasol but it is close.

Definitely Pierce. He has been our most consistent defender BY FAR.

Every other player has been inconsistent defending the Lakers, from Rondo to Ray to KG to Perk.

Also, Pierce was the only starter in game 4 keeping us in the game for the first 3 quarters.

I'd give it to PP by a very small margin. Of course, it all depends on what happens next.

For the Lakers (god forbid), I think it will be Kobe no matter what. If Pau gets it, Kobe's head is gonna explode.

For L.A. - it's Kobe. Good case for Pau though.

For Boston, totally unclear. Baby has as much a claim to it as anyone else. Right now, anyway.

Not that I think this will happen but... what if BBD has another game or two like he had tonight? Could he possibly win a Finals MVP? Yeesh!

This has been the strangest Finals I can remember in that there is no clear Finals MVP favorite through 4 games.  After Game 2 I would have said Lakers- Gasol, Celtics- Rondo.  After Game 3 I would have said Lakers- Fisher.  After tonight...I'm officially confused.  I would said whoever has the big Game 5 will become the favorite for MVP because I believe whoever wins Game 5 will win the series.

Pierce and Rondo are both gonna have a great game 5.

Ron Artest and Lamar Odom will also have a great game 5.

If the Lakers win, Gasol.
If the Celtics won it after tonight, I would give it to Glenn Davis. But, I think Rondo is going to break out of his slump and dominate games 5 and 6 and will end up winning the MVP if the Celtics win the series.

As it is right now, I don't think any Celtic stands out. Perhaps Rondo is in the lead. But if we win the series, that means 2 more wins. A player or two will stand out after 4 wins.

It isn't clear that Finals MVP makes any sense with this team.

For LA:  
Pau Gasol.  He's been unstoppable, and much more efficient than Kobe.  When the Lakers win, it's because he's grabbing boards, swatting shots, and making pretty jumpers in the lane.

For Boston:
Who knows?  I think you have to say Rajon Rondo, because when the Celtics are playing well it's almost always because he's controlling the pace of the game and making timely defensive plays.  None of the Big 3 has played well in every game.  Rondo hasn't, either, but he's been at least a big factor in each one, so he gets the nod.  

I think for Boston to win it all somebody will have to take over a couple games, though.  So this question will be easier to answer for Boston a week or so from now.

Is it possible when the Celtics win that a Laker gets the MVP?

I know it doesn't make much sense but I think the losing team has  produced the Finals MVP before.

Seems like it was  Celtics Lakers finals it happened in way back in the day. I can't be sure though.

I doubt they'd do it nowadays, although I have a hard time seeing anybody deserving Finals MVP more than Gasol unless Kobe, Rondo, or Pierce totally dominate two of the next three games.
