How about hiring Mike Brown next season?

Before anyone asks yes I'm sober and very serious. I don't know if he's interested in being an assistant but I think with our personnel he could be a good fit to replace Thibs.

He had deficiencies as a head coach but I have a good deal of respect for him as a defensive coach. Before he was eventually doomed with Mo and then Shaq/Jamison, I noticed in the playoffs he did an admirable job with defensive game-plans and adjustments and running a disciplined defensive team with what he had.

The reason being is how his team gave up, and he just sat there in the final minutes as the C's won. Literally gave up.

Game 2 - With the C's up by like 6 or 7, the Lakers were still trying, still fouling, still playing defense.

That's one difference and why Mike Brown isnt a championship caliber coach.

Yeah he probably won't want to go back to being an assistant. But the options next season are dwindling so maybe he'll consider a temp thing where he can focus on his strengths and leave the heavy lifting to someone else.

I'm kinda bummed no else bothered to read my post . I'd have to be a serious masochist to advocate replacing Doc who hasn't even said he's leaving with Mike Brown of all people.

Now I like the idea of Mike Brown replacing Thibs even more than I did before given how the game ended last night. The thing is we've been quite foul prone the past 3 seasons - maybe it's a reputation thing I don't know. We've been hurt by this in the past and eventually got done in by opponent FTA negating the defense we played. It'd be nice to get someone who could keep the defense great while fouling a little less.

mike brown as the D coach to replace tibs, sure. in fact, that'd probably be a good fit - dude does know defense. however, i am pretty sure he'll get a head coach job somewhere. and i really think doc is going to leave. mchale seems like a logical fit to replace him.

Agreed. Would have absolutely no problem having him board as an assistant coach, effectively in that defensive coordinator-type role that Thibodeau held here over the last few years.  His track record in that area is as strong as Bree suggests.

I know this is a much different environment that Minnesota, but I was under the impression he doesn't want to coach, period.  I've heard his name come up recently so I am wondering if he has changed his mind?

Your read is accurate. He didn't want to go behind the bench in Minnesota. But he did, and was rather successful until Big Al went down. Since then he has become very interested in coaching. Not sure what's changed. But he wants a job.

He was on WEEI last week and gave an evasive answer about whether he'd talked to Danny about the job, should Doc leave. Reading between the lines, he's very interested but didn't want to overstep his bounds.

Still hoping Doc comes back but I completely understand why he would see this as the place to call it quits.
