I am a very emotional person when it comes to sports. I can be one who ponders on plays, mistakes, turn overs, etc for days, until the next game comes... One thing that bothers me the most is double standards within fan bases. I know it will never be cured, or fixed but seriously, this has gotten our of hand.

I just came from reading all 300+ comments on the "Doc Blasts the Refs" post, and couldn't believe my eyes. Some Lakers fans really are delusional...

I really would like everyone, even the Lakers fans on here to tell me, why there is such a double standard when it comes to complaining about refs? I'm not being biased here, but if I had the time and effort, I would find all the articles and quotes coming from Phil Jackson complaining about the refs since the playoffs even started. He uses his words wisely and says things certain ways to not end up getting fouled.

When Kobe went down with 5 fouls, all hell broke lose and every media outlet talked about Kobe having 5 fouls. [hil Jackson ripped the refs for it, and said we had the advantage, though I remember the Ft disparity was 26-41. Phil Jackson's mouth was the only thing I kept hearing. While Doc, even with Wade, Lebron, and Howard was opponents, and star calls, didn't utter a word. The fans did some but Doc didn't.

Now, with the atrocious officiating that I had to witness as I was lucky enough to get very close seats in last nights game, Doc FINALLY after bottling up all his anger about the refs, because last night was just too much to hold in, finally said what was on everyone's mind.

And not a single media outlet mentions Ray and his foul trouble in game 1, KG in game 2, and PP in game 3. And all of a sudden Lakers fans come here saying we are cry babies. Like I said, I am not being biased, but Phil Jackson complains about the refs more than I have ever seen, yet the one time Doc finally does it, all hell breaks lose that the whole team is a bunch of cry babies. Seriously?

I saw the comments from the other side and every Laker fan complained about Kobe being hit with 5 fouls. We mention that ALL THREE of the Big three has been hit with 5 fouls at some point in this series and we're being called the whiners..

The they say we need to get tough and stop being so soft and deal with it, yet when we are tough and play aggressive, they call  us thugs, and cheaters.

Guys, I really don't know if I am just being crazy, but this is just p---ing me off that I am angry writing this thread right now. I am tired of the people who do something, yet when the other does, it's called whining. It's like Kobe and Jackson are God's..

Can someone please tell me am I seeing this in a different way and making it a big deal?

Phil Jackson is renowned for slyly complaining to refs without necessarily complaining. the media calls it his 'mind games' but Doc's complaining about refs is no different than Phils complaining about the calls Kevin Durant gets before the thunder series in an attempt to influence the refs. or his complaining about Nash's carrying the ball to again try and influence the refs.  The only difference is that Doc is complaining about things that have actually happened. opposed to Phil's proactive approach to get calls in his favor.

Phil always complains about officiating after the fact as well though.  He'll say things like, "I thought those were interesting calls"  or "I thought that was weird".  Seems like the guy is always complaining about foul calls after a loss

You have to understand that Laker fans are, without a doubt, the dumbest collective sports base in existence.  This is simply because there are so many of them, not just in California but anywhere.  They are the face of the NBA so anytime someone wants to follow a new team (AKA a bandwagoner), they are the logical choice.  The majority of Laker fans are clueless about the NBA and are more interested in highlights than actual basketball (which is why Kobe works perfectly as an idol).  Furthermore, they have a sense of entitlement due to the winning history of the franchise-- which works as a never-ending feedback since the league is always bending over backwards to market and favor them.

Bottom line, ignore those idiots, because they don't know the game.  You can tell that even the few scattered Laker fans here, while fairly behaved, still reek of both hubris and cluelessness.

The best thing you can do Mizzy is channel that emotion and passion into hate towards LA and their fans. You'll feel better, trust me.

As a Laker fan, I'm not seeing where the double standard is.  Other teams' fans always rail that Phil Jackson is a whiner whenever he makes his usual complaints against how an opponent's player is officiated in the playoffs.

I think Rivers has the right to voice his opinion on the officiating-- and as a whole I think it's been pretty poor for both sides.

Every fan-base has it's homers who thinks the only way their team loses is through the officiating.  Every fan-base also has the more realistic fans who will acknowledge that sometimes the other team plays better.

I'm glad to find on that this board has a nice balance of both, and for the most part the discussion is civil.  I can appreciate the passion for your team and sympathize with the pain of losing.  For me, watching the Lakers lose is like watching your kid get beat up.

Relax, and remember that the Laker homers will criticize anything negative said about their team-- and it goes vice-versa.

Regarding the Lakers fans on the front page, we're doing our best to separate the ones here for legitimate discussion from the ones who are here just to troll.

Please don't label or attack people in the comments section.  Just shoot one of the staff members an email (I'm Roy@celticsblog.com) or a PM indicating what post is offensive, and we'll look into it.  (The "flag" option works okay, but emails or PMs are better, honestly.)

That is not completely true.  You have to understand there are over 3 million people living in Los Angeles and in California there is over 30 million people.  If half the population in Los Angeles were true Laker fans and if Lakers where to lets say go to the finals ;).  All of the sudden the whole california knows about it and lets just say 25% of California all of the sudden rides the band wagon and starts roots for them that's like over 7 million people.  The voice of the true Laker fans gets cut off with the voice of all the band wagons.  Don't get me wrong i'm not saying everyone from out of the city are band wagoners because i know a lot of good posters who live in different cities or states, but that just shows you the number of people we have.

Now back on discussion a lot of my fellow Laker fans usually like talking about this person whining or that person complaining just for laughs we don't really mean it so if you see stuff like this in our forums is usually just of for fun(we can't keep talking about how great our team is all the time ;).), but those people trolling about it in your boards is just going a bit too far.

I'm sure the Lakers have their fair share of bandwagoners. But I'm pretty sure a lot of people hopped on our bus when they heard that Ray and KG were coming here almost three years ago. It goes with the territory. As far as the "few scattered Laker fans here, while fairly behaved, still reek of both hubris and cluelessness" thing goes, is that how you treat your guests? 'Cause they really are our guests and if they behave with respect and civility, you really should treat them the same way. Even though you hate their team.

I could give you 5 TPs for this if it were possible, but hey, I guess the thought counts, right?  :D

I said on the ESPN.com boards that this would happen; that the moment something questionable happened that didn't favor the Lakers, that Laker Nation would rage considerably and whine like little babies. They did it in '08 because of Game 2, they did it now. Like I said, this was over on ESPN.com's forums  and I didn't read that 400+ comment front-page article about Doc bashing the refs, so I'm not singling out any Laker fan on SBN. But clearly, some Laker fans aren't happy, and I'm here to say to get over it. I'm not going to go out of my way to avoid places I usually visit just because I know some Laker fan might be drowning himself in his own tears online. Quite annoying.

Still, to all of you Laker fans that DO read this post, good luck Game 4, and jeez, just enjoy the game.

I have lots of Laker friends (including family) and they are all good people even if some are fanatics and some are casual fans. I wouldn't dismiss the Laker fan base as a whole. Fans of every team run the range of fanatic / intelligent / casual / clueless jerks.

The trolls who show up from time to time are the worst for sure though.  :P

Now lets kick some Laker butt tonight, and tie this series!! Go Celtics!!

The 2 bad calls against Kobe in game 2 where so incredibly bad, that it was obvious at the moment that they would get a lot of play, especially since they were fouls that sent Kobe to the bench.

The same thing happened with the bad tech calls against Perk. The press was all over those. We get our fair share of sympathy too.

I have a few Laker fan friends who I respect because they actually know their game. The thing that bothers me are the ones who are hypocritical and the ones who barely know anything about the game, yet come to the opposing blogs to troll and start trouble because of a win. They're coach can complain and they see it as defending their players.

Doc defends PP yesterday, and now all of a sudden its seen as whining.

Too bad there is no one way to stop trolling. And to bad some fans can't stop seeing the games with their team's colored glasses. :(

To the real LA fans, thanks for being classy and real and actually knowing your game. I'm sorry if I generalized you guys. I know how it feels when people generalize C's fans.

Hahaha... 2 qualifiers:

1. the family in question are cousins/uncles on the west coast.
2. They hate Kobe and thus have their team allegiance tested
