There are a ton of quality Neil Young songs great for acoustic guitar.  Neil's been touring this year with just him and an acoustic.  Would love to have caught a show.

Any info on where the shows are?  Is he still touring?

Neil Young favorites are Sugar Mountain and Down by the River.

an old friend had a ticket for a show in Springfield, or Worcester within the last month, but the price was pretty hefty.

Looks like he's out west now

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I've decided to add more general stuff to the list of songs I play on my acoustic. I know a ton of Saves The Day, Taking back Sunday, Get up kids and more stuff from that genre of music but not everyone knows that stuff. For the upcoming weekends and summer festivities, what do you suggest I learn?

It's too bad Saves the Day and Get Up Kids fell way off the cliff beginning with, "In Reverie" and "Guilt Show", respectively. Bring in some Weezer- still somewhat within the genre, but a little more hip ("My Name is Jonas" "Surfwax America" "Greatest Man that Ever Lived", etc etc).

....that you do what Belushi (Bluto) did in Animal House as he walked down the stairs with his wreath askew and his toga on....short of that, Jose Feliciano's version of Dirty Jim's "Light My Fire" can really set the mood if it's a mixed audience...if it's "just friends" or buddies you're hanging with, I'd go the Bluto route.....then make sure you smirk, and your right eyebrow alone goes up...

Because "Redemption Song" was already requested, I'll have to say "Wish You Were Here".

I cannot recall the artist, but I know there was a song called "Your Cheating Heart". Play that one for me, please.

That one would reflect my opinion on the officiating so far in this series ;D.

It's an oldie by Hank Williams.
Something by Hank Williams III might be good for today's campers.

I play a ton of guitar, so here goes...all sure-fire winners i've had requested from people who knew them...and more importantly, people who didn't request them actually recognized the songs without necessarily knowing the title or artist...

oasis- wonderwall    That's gotta be the most requested 90's acoustic song by anyone.
             live forever, or champagne supernova

dashboard confessionals- screming infidelities, a lot of other stuff...

spoon- underdog

van morrison - brown eyed girl, wild nights, lots of other stuff...

the rolling stones- jumping jack flash, you can't always get what you want, or street fighting man

pearl jam- elderly woman behind the counter in a small town, corduroy, daughter, or....

better man               (that's also a top 90's request rivaling wonderwall)

stone temple pilots- creep, plush

led zepellin- stairway to heaven (obviously)

nirvana- all apologies, about a girl, lithium

crosby stills and nash -pretty much anything

the verve- lucky man

neil young- cinnamon girl, heart of gold, old man, hurricane, down by the river

the dandy warhols- bohemian like you, we used to be friends

I would request to borrow the guitar, (as I can't stand to not play myself, haha). Then I might start with a jazz standard or two, maybe some folk, an original, or, better yet, I'd probably have my axe with me, so we could jam a bit, trading solos, then maybe play a duo to harmonize with ... like "More Than Words" by Extreme, or "If I could Change The World" by Clapton/Babyface. You take it from there. ;)
