that jazz fan is a tool, a complete loser. however, many jazz fans feel that fisher hid  behind his daughter's illness to get out of his contract in utah and go back to the lakers. however, what he is doing here is just stupid.

Why would Fisher have wanted to go back to the Lakers then, when the Jazz at that point were better than the Lakers were other than the reason of his daughters illness.

I think the idea of a "Big Game" brings out the best and worst of fans and also reveals their true intentions in attending a game. I am a season ticket holder and will admit that I tend to curse/swear at playoff games as opposed to regular season.

During the regular season, I generally take the assumption that there are several people attending who are looking to experience the "family friendly" appeal of being at the Garden. During the playoffs, my underlying approach is that everything there is likely a fairly devoted fan.

With that being said, that is where I draw the line in regards to my behavior.

Fighting/throwing beer/verbally assaulting opposing fans, truly shows that the offender is not there to watch a basketball game. That person has manipulated being a passionate fan into an excuse to attack people. Unacceptable...

I've gotten to the point that I can spot the knuckleheads that will be tossed out of the game before the 4th quarter as they're walking to their seats. These aren't basketball fans. These are people that feel it's their right and responsibility to protect the city of Boston from "sports intruders."

It's not your job and you're embarrassing the rest of us.

I'm a Celtics fan living in San Diego, CA, and got tickets to Game 2 at Staples Sunday night for my son and I through my wife's employer.  I wore my old #33 jersey and, though I was a bit nervous about it, got nothing more than a bit of good-natured heckling from Lakers fans.  Maybe that's more of a testament to the Staples Center charging $15 for a 12 oz. Heineken than it is the actual fanbase, but it was quite different from what I'm used to in the Garden.

It's east coast thuggery vs. west coast arrogance. As a Lakers fan attending games at Staples Center, let me give you another perspective. I've gone with friends and taken my son, who plays on his school basketball team, to games periodically. The air in which people walk throughout the arena and the arrogance is as thick as butter. It's all about being perceived as 'cool'. I hate going to games there. I'd rather enjoy games in front of the big screen so I can hoot and holler and act like I want without condescending looks and glares. Boston fans, on the other hand, high-five each other, hug strangers, and appear to be very boisterous and vocal. Unfortunately, at every arena, it just takes a few drunken knuckleheads to ruin it for everyone.

I take this thread seriously, but I cannot resist sharing a snippet from a chat with a Lakers friend of mine named Forbes.

Essentially, I pasted a couple of the incidents mentioned in this thread and told him how awful it was. Then, in a more lighthearted mood I said the following. Forbes response cracked me up. Even their own fans know how evil they are!

(2:04:58 PM) me: the lakers are the embodiment of evil, but no reason to get violent

(2:06:02 PM) Forbes: agree

that sums it up, it's ok to hate the other team, but realize its a game and violence is stupid =)

Out of curiosity...how much are the tickets going for in Boston?

The reason I bring that up is because here in LA, the tickets price out a good portion of the type of people that generally do this crap. You won't see that much more than some ball-busting, as the C's fan in San Diego mentioned.

However, in '08 they had a "viewing party" at Staples for Games 1 & 2, and it only cost $15 to get in. I went to Game 1, and there were a few Celtic fans there. This was the game where Pierce heroically overcame his devastating injury ( ::)) and helped the C's pull away in the 2nd half. There were a couple of fights in the stands during the game, and when leaving the arena it got worse. Just hoards of people intimidating the Celtic fans whenever they saw them. I even saw them doing it to a woman.  >:( I tried to intervene, but got shouted down.

Anyway...all fan bases have that. Lord knows we have enough gangbanger Laker fans that do this crap.

I love the Celtics, I generally get annoyed by our fans (lack of knowledge, extreme homerism, beligerant drunkenness), but last night was ridiculous - went to game 3 and saw 3 incidents that showed how classless our fans can actually be

let me preface by saying I have traveled to opposing cities to see the Celtics and Sox - cities have included Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New York, New Orleans, Orlando and have rocked Celtics/Sox gear and have cheered when we make a good play.  No one has ever said anything beyond maybe gentle ribbing

At game 3 last night, in the restroom a guy was wearing a Lakers jersey, waiting in line - a mob of Celtics fans - presumably drunk were chanting Lakers suck and Kobe sucks, completely in his face, pointing, etc.  Guy remained stoic - personally I would have left the lav... then someone threw a beer at him. I left before there was a fight, but given the lack of security, I assume one went down. classy Boston

second incident, a few sections over a Lakers fan pumped his fist when they scored and a Celtics fan punched him.  Zero provocation.  Super classy.

Last one, leaving the game, 2 guys with Lakers jerseys are trying to walk down the stairs and are assaulted by another mob of presumably drunken Boston fans - this is on the stairs, pretty dangerous place to get into it... stay classy Boston

when you buy a ticket to a game, you're paying to cheer your team and tolerate those around you.  Of course no one likes an opposing fan cheering, but they have a right to.  Just cheer louder.  But fights in the stands are just stupid.  I truly felt embarrased to be a Celtics fan last night, because of the treatment of others...

while i agree with you, i was also at the game and saw plenty of laker fans talking trash, taunting, and instigating others.......those are the types that deserve a butt kicking.

if you root for the other team and do so without being disrespectful or antagonizing the home fans, cool.  if you start instigating and provoke, u get what u deserve.

That's an interesting question. Some people may have gotten in (comparatively) cheap if they bought right before the game, because it seems like the re-sale folks overestimated how much people would pay. There were empty seats all night-- too many empty seats for it to be a fluke, like someone having a last minute emergency and not being able to give the tickets to a friend.

Whatever they paid, I have to agree with the original poster that some of the worst Celtics fans were on display last night. I was sitting next to a Laker fan who appeared to be a decent guy apart from his terrible taste in basketball teams. The  fans behind us (very drunk before the game started) were leaning over him, clapping/shouting in his face, etc. They were inadvertently spitting all over my hair just because I was next to the Laker fan, so they must have been spitting on him too... he was very stoic about it. It was disgusting, literally and metaphorically.

There was, however, another Laker fan nearby who was escorted out by security in the first quarter-- and he richly deserved to be removed. There are idiots in every fanbase.

When I was a kid sitting in the bleachers at Fenway I saw a 20 something year old hot chick dressed in a Hartford Whalers jersey get nacho sauce, ketchup, mustard, relish etc. tossed at her from every different direction.I'm pretty sure it was soft stuff only, but still, she was coated. It was in her hair and everything. Nuts.
When I was a kid I have to admit I laughed. Now that I'm older and (hopefully) more mature, I think about it and... .....I still laugh. It was absolutely hysterical. ;D

Seriously though, violence or threats of violence are horrible. Bad drunks. They really can ruin the experience for a lot of people. They embarass their city.

Yeah, if the scalpers had to get rid of a ton of tickets at the last minute, you're definitely gonna get a rowdier crowd. The cheapest ticket I've seen for Game 6 at Staples was $416 per ticket, and I'm talking about awful seats. People that can afford to spend that amount of money on a basketball aren't usually the type that are spitting and throwing beer on people. It still happens, but not nearly as much.

For the people "pointing at other ball-club fans", here's a thing to think about;

In my wanderings across the various message boards and web logs, I've found that the general consensus is that Celtic fans are a bunch of thugs. They're loud, and they tend to be obnoxious and a nuisance. And that's putting it lightly. That's what people think about us.

Honestly, there must be a reason for it. I don't doubt that we've got some of the greatest, most well-spoken, witty and intelligent fans as well, but let's just say that we're probably well represented at *both* sides of the fan spectrum.

I guess it comes with being the best ;)
