I came across an interesting stat today that kinda surprised me...  We can make history, Dr. Phil style, if we win this series...  And it would be pretty immense:

Phil Jackson is 46-0 in EVERY playoff series (of any length) he has ever coached when his team wins the FIRST game of the series...  Think about it: when his team wins game 1 he NEVER loses a series.

With all the accolades bestowed upon him (and as much as I hate to admit it) and rightfully so, this would be a HUGE accomplishment should the Celtics pull this off, one of historical proportions...

That's nice.  He's also one of only two coaches who has ever lost all three road games in the final's 2-3-2 format.

Felger was preaching this as a point after game 1 why the celts were in trouble.  The first thing that came to my head was:

What was the Bellichick Patriots' record when leading going into the 4th quarter before the Indy game?  How did that hold up?
2020 CelticsStrong All-2000s Draft -- Utah Jazz

Finals Starters:  Jason Kidd - Reggie Miller - PJ Tucker - Al Horford - Shaq
Bench:  Rajon Rondo - Trae Young - Marcus Smart - Jaylen Brown -  Peja Stojakovic - Jamal Mashburn - Carlos Boozer - Tristan Thompson - Mehmet Okur

As Doc mentioned, no one had come back from a deficit like we did in the 2008 finals. No one had ever made 8 threes in a finals game either. We got handed our worst playoff loss this year that had never happened before and we handed our some of our own.

Phil has never played this Celtics team with that Lakers team in the finals. Previous records do not show for that, and that's the only thing that matters. It's best of 5.

Here's the bad news though, Phil is also 12-0 in a series when after winning game 1, lost game 2..[dang]it this series is still either playing into Phil's hand or we are really bound to make history in breaking Jackson's record.

I look at it as another chsnce to make sports history. Boston teams seem to have a knack at making sports history.
The beatings will continue until morale improves

If he's undefeated after winning game one, any combination including "winning game one" will also be undefeated. ::)

This starting five has a 7-0 record in the post season series. I suppose we call it a tie.

I asked Roy about this earlier... how many times has a team won a 2-3-2 series when they didn't have home court?  Of those teams, how many lost game 1?  Seems daunting.  Then he pointed out that in 2006, Miami lost both games in Dallas... then swept the next 4.

I like our chances ;)

So tired of people pounding this stat into my brain. What do the 91 Bulls have to do with anything? That was 20 years ago. Everybody Dance Now was a huge hit song 20 years ago too. Not sure that song is all that relevant to me today either.

When tied 1-1 the teams that win game 3 has won the series every time (10 times) since 2-3-2 format.

When tied 1-1 in all formats game 3 winner wins the series 28 out of 32 times.

This is a pretty meaningless stat.  take the one that was snapped last year for example-->C's had never lost a series when up 3-2.  That was snapped by the Magic last year.

just consider Phil fortunate before this year.
