Obviously as a celtics fan I loved that timeout call. However, Phil Jackson had a pretty good question. Is that play even legal? Usually coaches cant run on to the floor in the middle of the action and I think the rule states he should get a technical there. Can anyone confirm that rule?

I believe any time someone on the bench (coach, player, etc.) steps on the court while the ball is in play, a T can be called.  Let's say, thankfully, the ref's aren't watching the line all the time like it were someone shooting a 3 or going out of bounds or something.  If you were to watch for it, it happens pretty often and isn't a big deal.

Looking at the replay, doc was a step in, but the whistle blew before he ran out to the middle.  Hey, the man was into the game.

That was a great call. Thanks, Doc for saving the day. ;D

Yeah I think it's illegal by the rules (Jason Kidd "trapped" Mike Woodson on the court during the regular season and a T got called on him if I recall correctly) but it was an awesome timeout and moment. Key play too! Funny to see Doc "interact" like that and get so involved emotionnally.

That's what I love about Doc. You can tell he really loves his job and his team, his players. I loved his reaction about Baby's buzzer beater last year or Ray's clutch shots, it's funny and genuine.

The Jason Kidd/Mike Woodson play's not exactly the same thing, since there was contact on that play.  Even though Kidd initiated it, Woodson basically got in the way.  They never called the tech when Woodson was just out on the court, they only called it when there was contact.

Had Doc gotten in the way of one of the Lakers players, I'm sure they would have called the T.

Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but even if they DID T up Doc at that point, we wouldn't have lost possession.  Lakers would have taken one free throw, and we'd still have one second to get the ball into the frontcourt.  You'd probably still give up the free throw to have a much better chance to retain possession.

Yeah you're right, in the Kidd case he intentionally rushed into Woodson to get a T called on him so it was different, he made use of Woodson's presence on the court to get the T called.

I hate Phil more and more with each postgame or anytime he speaks, he was sort of clowning Rivers he said he looked like he was shot out a cannon or something to that sort... Also when asked about how Artest played he was like him and Pierce went 2-13 1-11 or whatever it was I dont know whos better with that smile and smug face. Pierce obviously had the better game doing the little things DEFENSIVELY tipping balls rebounds  ::)

And I think that kind of awareness and enthusiasm inspires Doc's players. If he had been T'ed up he would have taken the heat, and it was a smart, bold move to avoid the turnover at a critical point in the game.  Awesome!
