Let's not whine guys. Celtic fans should be better. Fact is LA just played better than Boston did. No calls would have turn things around for us.

Do I think some calls stink? Yes, for sure. Did it cost us that game? No

Completely agree man were better than that.  The number of foul calls and the free throw differential is even.  While there were blown calls, every game has them and since LA is the HC team i expect them to go their way, just like they went our way in games 1 and 2 in 2008. Lets just hope they dont have a 38-10 advantage at the line like we had game 2 2008. if they do, IM WRITTING A LETTER TO STERN

54 total fouls in 48 minutes = brutal game to watch, regardless of who u root for. ticky tack fouls in a finals game......nba, where crappy officiating always happens

I didn't have a problem with the officiating. It was mostly good and very fair. But the calling it exceedingly tight and seeing a lot of touch fouls instead of incidental contact slowed the game to a snore and played into the hands of the way the Lakers wanted the game called.

If the C's see this again, they have to play through it and just continue to play their game. If they do, eventually the refs will have to relax their stringency and the C's will be able to play the way they want.

Look, the refs sucked and it favored the Lakers.  There's no conspiracy, no whining.  That's just the facts.  The Celtics were  outplayed as a result, which isn't altogether surprising.

I can live with ticky-tac fouls as long as they're called evenly, but they weren't. How can you have an "evenly called game" when the refs "concentrate fouls on certain players"?  (per Nickagenta)

This is the issue with the NBA.  Think about how many officials names you know in the MLB or NFL.  We know a few, but hardly any in comparison to the NBA.  The NBA officials make themselves the center of attention and it's not good for the game.  The radio the other day was comparing the amount of fouls in the NBA to penalties in the NFL.  They said the amount of fouls called in the NBA is equivalent to a flag being tossed every 3 plays or so in the NFL.  Imagine if that was so?  That be awful to watch.  The NBA really needs to become better with officiating or else they'll lose even more fans to the NCAA ranks.
do it

If Joey Crawford and the NBA refs are fixing games, it's definitely not in the Lakers favor.

It's more like they're out to sink the Lakers if you believe in this conspiracy thing.

The free throw disparity between the Lakers and their opponent is so extremely skewed that it definitely looks like the fix is on to kick the Lakers out of the Playoffs.  I mean seriously, the Lakers have had almost 100 less free throws than their opponent in just 17 games...wow.

Such an extreme differential handicapping the Lakers almost makes me want to believe Stern is rigging the Playoffs for anybody BUT the Lakers to win.  Luckily I don't believe this BS.

It's kind of like the conspiracy theorists that think the US never landed on the moon despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

That chart speaks volumes.

It is interesting to note that the top 4 teams on the list are all teams Boston and LA have faced these playoffs.

What i get from that information is that Stern and crew did as much as they could to extend each series the Lakers and Celtics played in up to the finals.  Its clear that stern only cares about the money.

What does this say for the current finals matchup?  Follow the $$$
       1.  Stern will do whatever it takes to send the series to 7 games.
       2. Money says 1-1 going back to boston makes the series much more interesting so look
for us to have the reffing advantage in game 2.
       3. A 4-1 Celtics championship = much less money so dont count on the Cs closing it out
           at home.
       4.  It will all come down to game 7 in LA, and it will be arguable the best
games in history.  Stern will pull his troops, few fouls will be called and it will be
an all around great game with lots of aggression, Technicals, and flagrents.

The NBA is a business. All you have to do is follow the money. Donaghy bet on games solely based on who stern chose to ref and he hit about 80% of the time.

Edited. Just look at how many less freethrows they shoot!

actually it's not quite that whacked.  For example, Tim Donoughy was supposedly on the moon for a cup of tea....turned out he was never there....

This is a great post which gets to the heart of the problem in the NBA.  TP.  If I'm not a Celtics or Lakers fan, I turn off game 1.  How can the NBA be so unaware of such a glaring problem in their product?  IMO Stern is a major, big-time control freak. (understatement of the year)  This issue of game fixing is not just a result of the scandal with Donoughy, it stems also from over controlling the games....too many whistles...of course we wonder why and look for answers.  Well, we know already that refs help whichever team is losing and whichever team is down in a series.  So you have even more whistles blowing because you want things closer.  You pile those equalizing whistles together with the let's-prevent-a-fight-kep-things-squeaky-clean whistles, and suddenly you've got a whiste fest.  To me that's already a big-time sin.  Fans aren't stupid.  They know when a team is getting blown out and they know when a team is helped back into a game.  Blowouts are a part of the game.  If you can't devise a way to call the game purely then you don't deserve any fans at all.  And the NBA is absolutely petrified of fighting.  I can't say exactly why this came to be, but when you don't allow players to police themselves at least to a small extent, your product is going to reek big daddyism.  Your product is not going to ring true as real competition..

agreed.  with the officiating problem in the nba, all i have to say is that a fish stinks from the head down.  get rid of stern.  he enables and supports the officials, rather than doing whats best for the game

This. The problem I had was with the effort the C's brought - which was, to put it kindly, lackluster.

Didn't deserve to win. Period. Did none of the things that have made us such a bad matchup in the playoffs.

Yeah ... I used to be OK with Stern, but when so much much water changes color, you've got to look at what's happening at the source. Rotten fruit, tear the tree up by the roots. (TP, Buds)

Wow!  Wasn't aware of the numbers behind the brutality!
