Back again, to swim against the tide of "Gloom-and-Doom" threads that flood the blogs at such (admittedly) perplexing times, and say once again, (despite the questions concerning my mental stability that are bound to arise as a result), that I am decidedly encouraged, despite this loss. (I'll try not to focus too much on the fact that if versions 1 & 2 had not been correct, there'd be no V.3 now, but it does add a little more weight to the optimism thing ;)).

It's much more simple this time, however ... yes, the same qualities of "Celtic Pride" and never-say-die attitude, etc., that I focused on before are still just as important, but what really makes me feel better this time around, is the score. We lost by 13 points, folks ... and three of those points came from a garbage-time tres by the "Black Reptile" that he made with four seconds-or-so left on the clock, so theoretically the margin was around ten points!

We played horribly, for the most part ... we were out-hustled, we were out-rebounded, the second-chance points were 16-to-nothing in favor of the Lakers, we were out-scored by eighteen points in the paint, and we only had one three-pointer. Tony Allen had three personal fouls in the first quarter, so his contributions were very limited, KG struggled as he has been for a few games, Perk had only three rebounds and struggled as well, Ray was also mostly a non-factor, and sat on the bench thanks to some questionable calls. Rondo didn't score in the fourth quarter and only had thirteen overall, and the bench only gave us sixteen altogether, nine of which were Sheed's.

Sixteen points from the bench ... that's terrible, folks. On the other hand, the Lakers played like a team, got to all the loose balls first, played in their building, with their fans, clicked on offense and defense, and played one of the better games I've seen them play all year long. Yet they still only won by thirteen points! We truthfully played one of our worst games of these playoffs, and the Lakers played extremely well ... nothing went our way, and almost everything went the way of Los Angeles, yet they still only won by thirteen! (Including the meaningless tres in the closing seconds).

To over-simplify, they were great, and we sucked ... yet they still only won by thirteen! If I were the Lakers, I'd be a bit worried by that margin, and I'd be very concerned about just why they didn't win by at least thirty points going away. This was an example of a great team playing poorly, and a very good team playing their best. We are still the better team, and we are a team that very rarely plays two such games in-a-row. Yeah, I'm very disappointed we lost, but after seeing how lousy we played, I'm also completely shocked at the win/loss margin ... and very encouraged about our chances in the games to come.

By all indications and stats, this should have been a thirty or forty-point blowout by the Lakers ... and they are the team that should be most concerned about that.

Go Celtics!

Nice post Bahku would give TP but must wait, we could all do a post of this nature with the mood of the blog (myself included). We all tend to be down when we lose rightfully so we bleed green lol but lets pick ourselves up realize its 1 game we can fix the problem. Lets leave it all on the floor in game as you say things cant be worse and can only look up after tonight. We sure arent going to just rollover I expect a bounce back win.

The Jekyll and Hyde nature of this team is something we've had to learn to deal with over the season and even the postseason.  There is indeed plenty of room for improvement in the Celtics game.  I thought in all of the timeouts we could overhear, Doc was telling the team the truth -- that they weren't hustling and that they were not playing enough team ball.

In my mind, the key to the Celtics is not overwhelming talent or any incredible mismatch.  The key is team defense and passing/movement on offense.  And somewhere in there we need to rebound.

All do-able.  Looking forward to game 2.

I'm with you.

For the next few days we are going to hear how the C's were dominated and they were to certain extent but, there were more than few things they can exploit but, they have to secure the defensive rebound to get easy baskets.

You would think after the season Boston just had most would give it more than 1 game before quitting on the team.

We have to steal game 2.

Go C's.

Yup ... I'm not even thinking about that game much anymore ... it was an aberration, and now we move on. It was the same chatter for the first three series, so being the Finals, it's just that much more of a panic. ;)

Tp for the great write up.  :)

We played absolutely horrible last night, and like I said in another thread I am really nervous about the whole 47-0 record of Phil Jackson.

Game 2 is going to be very important this Sunday. We really need to split the series going into Boston.

P.S. Watched KG's post game interview and he looked p---ed. Hopefully he makes Pau payback for the way he embarrassed him.

You're the man Bahku.

Of course I agree.

We have plenty to work on. This is still an evenly matched series. LA drew first blood. We have a slew of things to work on.

We will come out in game 2 with somehthing to prove and with renewed energy.

I'm a bit worried. You can have a bad day, but you shouldn't be outhustled. Lakers played like they want it more than us, went hard for offensive rebounds and were very physical. While the C's just didn't have a spark needed in those type of games.

Game 2 will be critical. I hope all the criticism the players gonna hear will recharge and motivate them. We need to see the good old take no prisoners C's again.

I don't think the C's were outhustled.  They were trying, and working hard.  They just were constantly out of position.  They were simply "off".  It seemed like much more of a mental thing than an effort thing.  It all starts with their defensive rotations, and they were a step slow on all of them, which then left them out of position to box out, and then killed the offense, because they couldn't get their running game going off the made baskets.  If they can tighten up their defensive rotations for game 2, then I think we will see things turn around quickly.

Exactly! timing and offensive execution go hand in hand and they looked rusty. If it was something LA was doing unexpectedly they need to figure it out.

Defensively they weren't sharp but still kept the pace of the game in our favor. Those types of games we win more often than not.

Good read....TP.

We were slow on the defensive end....we fix that and we'll win games. Our offense and defense are mutually inclusive.

TP for the post. I am still encouraged as well and like you said, they only beat us by a little with a horrible performance by us.

It kind of reminds me of that long lay off between Cleveland and Boston, when Lebron and company came in and whipped us something fierce. That game, we lost by 30 and last night only 13 with lots of miracle heaves with no time on clock. This tells me Cleveland at its best is better then LA at their best. That is very encouraging to me.

It would not surprise me if we bounce back hard like in that Cleveland series and go on to win the next few games in a row. One step backwards, 2 steps forward.

Go Celtics!
