Rumor: Nets turn down deal for Beasley?

According to ESPN, Miami offered Beasley to the Nets in exchange for . . .

wait for it . . .

Keyon Dooling.

And the Nets turned Miami down.

The Heat probably tried to trade Beasley and their pick for Dooling and the #3. I think the Nets made the right decision in turning it down. IMO, Beasley is a bust he might have the talent, but he definitely doesn't have the desire.

It has to be difficult going into the draft thinking that you're going to be the focal point of a rebuilding team, and then end up on an average --not awful-- Miami team that features DWade.  I'll give him 2 more years before I call him a complete bust.

Pat riley isn't going to trade beasley unless it can land him a potential superstar. Trading him for bascially nothing would be an admission on riley's part that picking beasley was a mistake.

Can teams even propose trades at this point?  No way does Miami do that.   We could offer them Glen Davis and the #21 and they still wouldn't part with Beasley.

Dooling's contract is non- or partially guaranteed (I forget exactly). A Beasley trade would be about clearing cap room to sign Wade's sidekick, not about the player coming back.

Even so, 2 players can't win you a championship.  2 good players with depth can win you one tho.  Beasley was arguably the 2nd best Heat player behind Wade.  To trade him for scraps I think only hurts the team.

Ah got it... Kinda like Erick Dampier's contract?  I read his final season is entirely non-guarenteed... so a team could trade for his contract then immediately waive him and pay nothing.

Say what you want about Beas, but I wouldn't mind having him in Boston... He's such a gifted offensive talent. I know he has work-ethic and personal issues. But I think if you take him out of the party city that is Miami Beach and on a team full of vets, he can do well.

He may never be able to be a franchise player that some thought he might, but I don't doubt he can be a 2nd or 3rd option on a good team.

Beasley is guaranteed $4.9  and $6.2 million over the next two years. Dooling has a non guaranteed contract for next year.

The Heat could,theoretically, have done the trade, cut Dooling thereby saving $4.4 million in cap space, and have had enough money to sign Wade another max guy and still had good cash left over to sign another significant free agent.

It was in my eyes a salary dump on Miami's part and jersey wouldn't take beasley because it would lower their space by almost $5 million since I can't see them keeping Dooling.
