In 2008, Perkins guarded Gasol and KG guarded Odom.

Most of LA's front court minutes still go to Gasol and Odom. Certainly Perkins will handle Bynum. Yet Bynum lately sometimes only plays 15-20 minutes.

Who does Wallace guard? My guess is that he'll find himself on Gasol quite a bit, and Garnett will pick up Odom, so that he can help on Gasol and Kobe, if those dudes get into the paint.

I think the best idea is to switch defensive roles.

Put Perk on Gasol.  He bothers Gasol more then KG because of his physical play.

Does anyone really thing Bynum defended by KG can win the game for the Lakers?

When bynun and gasol are out there

Perk on Bynum
KG on Gasol

When Gasol and odom are out there

KG on odom
Perk on gasol

When Sheed and BBD are out there

Sheed on Gasol
BBD on Bynum

Or

Sheed on Gasol
BBD on odom

at least I think so?

Thats what I have seen too. In stretches, Gasol is too fast for Perk. But over the long haul, I've seen Perk's physical play turn Gasol into a bricking jump shooter.

There are 2 matchup scenarios where I think the Lakers are being given too much credit:

Perkins being overmatched by Gasol ...and...
Artest being able to handle Pierce 1 on 1.

I think both are false. Perk does fine against Gasol. And although Artest is a good defender and had Pierce's number for about 2 years, Pierce has routinely shredded Artest since.

And when KG and Sheed are on the court together against Odom and Gasol?

Anyway, I think you geys are feeling me. KG is probably only going to check Gasol for 15 minutes per game.

The Celtics have to knock Gasol off his spot.  He will then roll up and hide out there.  We saw this two years ago.

Remember, Gasol had his big game when Perk was out in the Finals and KG defended him.  While KG is a better defender then Perk, he is not physical enough to bother Gasol.

Yup, I remember that game 5 well. Let Wallace and Perkins bully Gasol. If he scores 20 ppg on jump shots so be it. I'd rather have KG shut down Odom and close the paint.

the Lakers aren't good enough shooters to beat this Celtic team 4 times while primarily scoring off of jump shots.

Granted, my memory does not serve me well and I can't recall the games this year but his stats dont show much in the way of shredding him.  The opposite actually:

2010 against the Lakers:
fgs:  4-11 and 4-9
3pt:  3-7 and 1-4

Id say let Perk guard Gasol, let KG guard Bynum.

I listened to LA radio yesterday, much concern over Bynum and his knee and how effective he can actually be.  If he only at 75%, Id take a chance with KG on him and let Perk push Gasol around and not let him heat up.  If worse comes to worse, KG could move over to Gasol.

Estimated Bynum plays between only 12-22 minutes anyway, so he shouldnt be too much of a factor anyway.

Look at their playoff history in the Pierce vs Artest thread. I remember a ton of Boston vs Indiana games in the regular season and playoffs that went Pierce's way.

Also I wouldn't judge many of Boston's regular season stats from this year.
