The Lakers may be downplaying their rivalry with Boston and saying they'd be happy meeting any opponent in the NBA Finals, so don't expect too many zingers and insults leading up to  Game 1 on Thursday.
Of course, Lakers Coach Phil Jackson fits the exception. In a question related to the teams' toughness, Jackson acknowledged the contrast between the Lakers' and Celtics' physical makeups, saying, "We don't have a smackdown mentality." He then riffed on Boston forward Kevin Garnett for what Jackson perceived as playing a little too rough against Orlando center Dwight Howard in the Celtics' six-game East finals victory over the Magic.
"He was smacking Howard's arm and finally he was called for an offensive foul," Jackson said of Garnett. "That's not our team. We don't go out there and smack people around."

hes basically making fun of us being "physical" pointing to a dumb play, trying to get in the refs head, or KGs good luck trying to get into his head this will probably only fuel him.

Don't smack people around? Nash's nose might feel otherwise.

Anyway, his 'mind games' got more and more laughable over the years.

Jackson's reputation and alleged mindgames are overrated... and useless. Can't wait to see him lose his 2nd Finals against the Celtics and 3rd Finals loss overall.

if that's the best "mindgame" he's got, then our players' minds are safe

I expect to see a disciplined front-court on the C's--and they're gonna need it, given how Jackson's already working the refs.

Watching Phil try to play his little "mind games" recently has been pretty painful. Like, watching new episodes of The Simpsons or something. You've lost your touch, old boy.

Guess he didn't see Kobe elbow Artest in the chest in the Lakers Houston playoff series last year.

Guess he didn't see Odom body slam Ray Allen the year before that.

Guess he hasn't really watched Odom or Artest generally, or Kobe at times, play the game of basketball.

Too busy arranging his chess pieces I guess.....

Phil Jackson is so lame.

We saw how good of a coach he was in Chicago when Jordan retired, and in LAL after Shaq was traded. Phil flaked out.

He's never developed talent well and his defensive technique has basically been line everyone up and play 1:1. His offensive technique is someone else's.

What he has done well is been able to get pros to get along enough to win titles. But when that's your thing - you should be able to get Shaq and Kobe to get along enough that you don't break up a championship squad.

I don't think his head games work. But they make him look super psychological to the press, which is what he wants.

I'l bet that L.A., like every other team in this years playoffs, does a lot more then 'smack around' Rondo. It's downright criminal what they do to the guy. It's amazing how a guy like BBD could 'wrap up' a player going to the basket before that player even gets off the ground and yet BBD is called for a flagrant but when Howard or Lewis supposedly 'make a play on the ball' against Rondo and send him flying sideways through the air for a hard, awkward fall and yet no flagrant. I wonder if Jackson will take the same 'we dont play physical enough' approach?

No Phil, you just have Derek"headbutting"Fisher try to take out players.Gauranteed Fisher will make a sneaky hard foul on Rondo or whichever player is burning them.

What about Kobe going straight for the back of the Suns center, knowing he has back problems.

Lets just summarize.

You are in the Championship Phil.

Its almost like the gloves come off at this point.

You and your team need to stop whining, put the mouth piece in, and enter the ring.

Only one fighter can leave the ring, and your constant complaining not gonna help your team survive.

After all, this essentially is Bloodsport lol

The last thing Phil wants to do is wake-up the sleeping beast. Offensive wise, he didn't have a good Orlando series particularly because of the sets we were running and with Howard roaming around... you don't give a guy like Garnett extra motivation to shut you up.

He needs to give it a rest. I find these "mind-games" stupid and ineffective and at this point they just sound like plain old whining to me.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

Yep, funny how he implies we're too physical and dirty when his players do this kind of stuff :

Fisher is the dirtiest of all the Lakers, he has this "nice guy" reputation but on the court he is dirty.

I hope he gets burned if he tries to injure Rondo (and he probably will).
