Into the lions den a Laker fan goes.  The first three rounds have bruised and bloodied the last two champions.  None of that matters now that the bell for the final round has been struck and fate has brought us together for another tango.  One, a superstar lead team with a slow efficient drag it out out offense thirsting for revenge. The other, a team with the unbreakable, punishing, no mercy defense pursuing redemption.  This will be the final proof that "defense wins championships".

Let's not talk about match ups or schemes or analysis.  Let's talk about a deep seeded hatred stewing for over forty years.  A hate of the other team-- their colors, their logo, their arrogance.  Let's hope for a seven game series propelled by the teams' sheer refusal to lose carried by ego and adrenaline.   Counter one run with another-- one dunk with a block-- and an eye for an eye.  Let there be streaks, comebacks and heartbreaks-- and not necessarily in that order.  Let there not be any let-downs, let-ups or taking plays off.  Let there be passion and the technicals that are a result.  This isn't some pseudo-rivalry like the Lakers v. Spurs, or the Celtics v. Cleveland.  This is the Lakers v. Celtics.

There should be no mid-court kisses before the game.  May the better team win and the other teams' fans complain about the officiating.  Both teams will leave it all on the court and the last one standing will be the one with Larry O'Brien in his arms.

Let's wish the other team good luck with total insincerity because we all know there's no goodwill in war.  We might as well get started.

First to four, by ones, winner takes out.  Your ball.

Welcome, sheldonc, and here is your first TommY Point!

Yes it will be a Classic, with a Capital C! Doesn't get any better than this!

I just watched Magic on ESPN talking about the Rivalry. He was hoping that he could hook up with Larry and talk about the Games.

It just doesn't get any better! As Mark Jackson says:

"It's Time to Dance!"

Great post (TP) ...

... and let me say, this is what sports is all about ... two of the most historied franchises meeting on Olympus for the final battle of battles.

The definition of "loving to hate" ... this is what we all dream about and hope for ... this is what you emulate as a child, playing pick-up games at the schoolyard ...

... the Celtics and the Lakers ... the ultimate of enemies, and the bloodiest of combats ... despite the outcome, it will leave us all wasted and spent of emotion, and we'd have it no other way ...

... this, my fellow warriors, is what we LIVE for!

Let the battle commence!

Ladies first?  Ok, I will take it, Darklord.

Since I hate to see anyone suffer, I hope Kobe finds a way to more easily accept defeat by my Celtics this time.  I understand he is still steamed about the shellacking he got in '08.  Calm down and enjoy, Kobe...after all your Lakers made another finals.  Between the Lakers and the Celtics, more than half the finals appearances in the NBA have been accounted for.  The Celtics plan to pad thier lead in head to head games this year, so just enjoy what you have, and maybe  we will meet you again next year.

No excuses.  If the Lakers lose it will be because they have no response to the Celtics defense.  I don't need to blame injuries, officials, travel, suspensions, food poisoning, back spasms or too much partying to justify if the Lakers don't play well or if the Celtics just outclass them.  I have no illusions that the Lakers are a super-team that only the officials and/or injury can defeat.

It's all a reflection of the quality of the team-- how they play through adversity.

I'll admit that it smarts losing so many times in the Finals to Celts.  I'm hoping Kobe finds his inner-Magic Johnson and is able to push these Lakers through.  The key for the Lakers is for the front line to man-up.  If the finesse doesn't find a way to deal with Celts physicality-- this going to be a very tough series for us.  Odd that our wing players, Fisher, Kobe and Artest are more physical than our bigs.

dude, you cant's possibly expect me to take anything you say seriously with a screen name like Bynum4MVP.

and since you just joined to troll this week you cant even use the excuse that you made it up back when your namesake was actually good. no worries though, we have a few geraldgreen4MVPs around here--you guys should hook up and talk about the tragic pain of promise unfulfilled.

I don't expect to be taken seriously on a Celtics board.

Just some good (not over the top) banter to add flavor to the series.   I'm sure there will be alot of Lakers and Laker fans suck posts but that's to be expected and I won't even respond to those.  ;D

Welcome Lakers fans!

Just please keep in mind that there are ONLY TWO possible outcomes of this series:

Celtics 10, Lakers 2 -- or Celtics 9, Lakers 3.
