We do not win this series if Ray is our best player . . .

Why so?  Ray was our best player for much of the Miami and Cleveland series (or, at the very least, our most consistent scorer), and he was arguably our best player in the 2008 Finals.

His stellar play in those series certainly contributed to winning, and if he ups his game even further, I don't see why it would hold us back.

I'm pulling for Ray, but I don't see how Pierce doesn't win another one.

I agree.  If we win this thing, Pierce is going to have to come up big.  But who the heck cares, as long as a Celtic wins it, I'm happy. 8)

Couldn't care less who won it as long as we have the big trophy by the end of it!

What would be cool to would be joint-winners. Ray and Pierce or something like that.

Heck, I could care less who wins Finals MVP but I do think the Ray Allen vs Kobe match-up will be one to watch. If I had to pick one person on our team who I am rooting for to win Finals MVP (before the actual finals start) I would definitely go with Kevin Garnett. Maybe Rondo if he continues at his current pace, though obviously we would first have to win the actual NBA Finals before any of our guys is eligible for the trophy.

I found it interesting how the announcers noted that the Lakers have had the most Finals appearances yet they haven't won the most rings during the broadcast of our Game 6 vs the Magic. In fact, the Lakers still have a sub .500 record as far as NBA championships vs finals appearances are concerned.

This year is their 31st Finals appearance and they only have 15 banners, meanwhile the Celtics almost never lose the NBA Finals with 21 Conference titles and 17 banners. Don't get me wrong; I'm hoping that we continue our impressive streak starting on Thursday, however we can't take winning the NBA Finals for granted seeing as the Lakers are our rivals...Lakers' Finals appearances are like those E! true Hollywood exposés of movie stars, celebrities and artists who are on their 3rd marriage after two previous failed attempts...yuck.

Oh, and another thing - BEAT LA!

As long as Kobe doesn’t get it in a losing effort... i’ll be happy. They do stuff like that some times  ::) :-\ >:(

Rather that than Kobe getting it for a winning effort.

(Have they really done that?  I don't remember it happening.  Maybe in an All-star game or something, but that's a little different.)

I think it has only happened once. Jerry West won it in a losing effort against the Celtics in 1969, the first year they handed out the award.

I don't think it has happened since then.

If Paul doesn't get the a book end to his '08 trophy I hope KG scores enough to get it.

The rewriting of history in regards to the best players in the game in recent history will be in full swing if PP takes 2 Finals MVPs vs Kobe.

You're correct. Jerry West is the only person to get Finals MVP for a losing effort.

I don't care who wins the 2010 Finals MVP, so long as it is a Celtics player.

KG will not win finals MVP regardless of what numbers he posts if we were to win the finals simply because of how the voting happens.

Take into account just how much negative press he has gotten this year and then ask the very same people to vote for a finals MVP, its going to be Rondo or Pierce simply because its a popularity contest more so than a actual award.

I would think the popularity contest aspect might help Ray more than Rondo or Pierce. For all of his career, Ray has been held up as one of the best guys for the press to deal with... patient, polite, thoughtful, smart, willing to talk to anyone about anything. If it's a close thing between Ray and someone else, Ray might get the edge from sentimental value/good karma.

I'd love to see Ray get a Finals MVP since he had to take the biggest step back to help this team get to where it has been these past three years. Now fans and even analysts are saying "Ray Allen is one-dimensional 3 point specialist who never did anything else," which simply isn't true. He needs hardware of his very own to wave at the next parade!

But I'll be thrilled for any Celtic taking it... anything but Kobe taking another one.

For the record, though.. I've been calling Rondo as Finals MVP (Next time we won, after 2008) since 2009 or so. Go dig up the posts in my history.

It's funny.. every laker fan thinks that the point guards from the other teams they've played this year were supposed to be the difference... I think they fail to see how many flaws those teams had.

Russell Westbrook went off against the Lakers for 20-6-6. His team probably would have won if they had a few solid vets. Yes, Kevin Durant is amazing but he's still really young and inexperienced, same for Westbrook.

Deron Williams dropped 22-9 on the Lakers, but the Jazz are so soft up front it's scary. Plus, they don't seem to be that good of a defensive team.

then Nash put up 18 and 12 on LA. But of course, Phoenix plays zero defense.

So yes, Rondo will destroy LA and tear them to shreds, hopefully at the end of the day, he'll have a Finals MVP to boot, as well... Seeing as how his teammates play defense and aren't cupcakes.

It would be difficult for Ray to get Final MVP because the ball isn’t going to be in his hand much at the end of games.  I hope Ray get it though.

I have a feeling Ray will break the NBA Final record for 3pt FG made in a series and 3pt FG made in a game if the series goes to Game 6. Ray has a height and speed advantages over Fisher and Kobe tends to roam on defense. Ray will get good looks from 3pt land. He just has to knock them down.

As long as it is someone in green, I don't really care. All of our big four deserve it as much.
