I know, its not the time...

but there is this rumor..and I got nothing else to do today...

Quote from: ESPN Rumors
We noted previously on Sunday that Sebastian Telfair's future with the Cavs might depend on whether the team trades Delonte West, something the Cavs "are expected to attempt," according to Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

As Windhorst details, the particulars of West's contract could make it attractive to other teams looking to save money.

He writes: "West has a partially guaranteed contract of $4.6 million that is worth just $500,000 if he's waived by August 5. That type of deal that could provide more than $5 million in savings for another team depending on how a trade is structured."

Considering how steadfast the Cavs organization has been in supporting West through his personal problems the last few years, it does seem a little surprising they're potentially looking to deal him.

But in the event LeBron James doesn't return to the team, it might be a wise move for the team to try and shed some salary in an effort to restructure the team post-LeBron.

It's a rumor.

like that is always lethal." - Evan 'The God' Turner

Personally, I'd love to bring Delonte back. At what cost though, who would we trade to get him? i wouldn't want to trade TA to get him though that probably sounds crazy to some, for that matter, it probably sounds crazy to some to even want him back considering his legal issues. (have those been resolved yet?)

CB Draft - New York Knicks
PG: George Hill / Nate Robinson
SG: Dwyane Wade / Gerald Henderson / Christian Eyenga
SF:  Grant Hill / Paul George / Earl Clark
PF:  Kenyon Martin / Jordan Hill / (Earl Clark)
C:   Greg Oden / Kurt Thomas / Hilton Armstong

I wouldn't trade anyone for Delonte... unless they trade him for Scals. They'd have to sweeten it with a future 2nd round pick, though  ;)

What are we talking about offering?  There is not too much on this roster I would give for him.  I also wouldn't trade any picks for him.  I liked him as a Celtic but I don't think I'd offer too much to get him back.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I love Delonte as a player, but I think he would be an off court distraction.

The guy has issues and I'd rather not make his problems ours.

Yes.  I'd rather have Delonte than Nate (no hate for Nate just think he belongs elsewhere)....

DWest is the perfect Rondo backup and works great next to TA, who should be resigned.....

Sign and trade Nate for DWest?

agree we shouldn't give up picks to do it....

understand those who don't want the issues that come along.....I'd risk it though....Doc will help, and his general comfort level in Boston should also make it work......at least one can hope....

Could be interesting, as West can actually play some shooting guard next to Rondo, giving him an opportunity for extra minutes.

I don't think I would be prepared to see him traded for anyone on the C's roster at the moment. Love the guy, but wouldn't want to break up our bench much over the preseason.

With only $500K guaranteed of $4.6 million, his trade value is to a team looking to dump salary.  IF they find a taker, they'll likely be looking to get a talented role player (as he is) who may be overpaid, but look to get a pick as well.  Then Delonte gets cut by Aug 5th and becomes an unrestricted FA, but not until Aug. 5th, when the FA market should hopefully have sorted itself out.

Meaning...

Delonte could be one of those players that becomes available for very cheap money.

This is bad news for TA, of course, as not only is Marquis Daniels looking at his spot, but Delonte will be available for close to the same money as well (2-3 million), maybe even less.

Comparing TA and Delonte, I think Delonte's superior in ball handling, decision making, and far better in shooting, as well as better with the ball in the clutch.  They're nearly the same height, and both have a history of injury, though TA's history includes major injuries, and Delonte seems to have little things nag him throughout the season, missing games here and there due to back spasms, etc.  I don't think TA is THAT much better on the defensive end than TA, though I give the nod to TA.  All in all, I think Delonte is a better player, and represents the sort of role-player talent we could pick up for 1/2 the MLE if Danny is patient this summer.

EDIT:  Gomes has a similar partially-guaranteed deal for similiar money (more than he's worth).  He could face the same fate as Delonte this summer.  Split the MLE and take both?

EDIT #2:  Heck, Gerald Green is still out there in Russia or wherever.  Perhaps in addition to getting Delonte and Gomes back, we could sign GG for the minimum and the fans of CB could  enjoy both our new team AND the old one!  WOO-HOO!

No way. This guy has mental issues and has been notorious for missing games and practice due to that fact. He held up the entire Cavs team at times during the regular season due to his apparent fear of flying, not to mention the weapons he likes to carry everywhere with him. Not what we need in our locker room.

How is this bad news for TA?  He handily outplayed Daniels and won a spot in the rotation over him.  I don't see the Celtics bringing Daniels back over Tony.  I also don't think they'd be interested in Delonte West anymore, especially not at the expense of Tony.  There is no way Delonte could defend the elite 2's or 3's in this league, so that alone makes Tony more valuable.  Now that we have Tony and Nate, there is absolutely no need for a bench guard with serious mental and legal problems.

Exactly.  (And if the Cavs trade him that pretty much confirms the MILF rumor.)

I think it will keep Tony's price down.  I'd say that's bad for Tony.  The more workable options, the more possibilities out there, the less he can command on the open market.  Even if we don't sign either Quisy or Delonte, someone will, and that team won't have interest in TA, meaning less likely to have a higher bid.

Daniels:  Yes, TA outplayed him, but they're still competing for the same spot.  And let's not forget that he looked really good at the beginning of the year (pre-injury), so a case can be made (to TA's agent) that the $2 million LLE is the starting point for negotiations, rather than the $6 million MLE that he'll hope for but not get.
