How about Amir Johnson??

http://www.nba.com/playerfile/amir_johnson/career_stats.html

I got the privilege of seeing him play multiple times in person when he was playing with the Fayetteville (NC) Patriots in the NBADL.  He has tremendous low post moves and is very athletic.  However, he is not a three point shooter.

That being said, we immediately get a solid PP back-up and got young and athletic to boot.

Thoughts?

P.S.  He really was coming on at the end of the season!!  I know that the Raptors might throw a LOT of money his way with them inevidently losing Bosh.  But, it depends on what they get in a sign and trade for Bosh.  They will likely want someone ready to start 82 games.

I'd have to go with NO due to shooting, especially w/TA and Rondo.  He couldn't really step in for PP without causing problems with lineups.  Imagine a Rondo, TA, Amir, BBD, and Perk lineup.  Granted, it would look better with Nate and Sheed out there to spread the floor, but it's just not the right fit for him.  Our SF needs range.  I like him otherwise, though.

I was under the impression that Amir Johnson was a PF not a SF...
CB Draft - New York Knicks
PG: George Hill / Nate Robinson
SG: Dwyane Wade / Gerald Henderson / Christian Eyenga
SF:  Grant Hill / Paul George / Earl Clark
PF:  Kenyon Martin / Jordan Hill / (Earl Clark)
C:   Greg Oden / Kurt Thomas / Hilton Armstong

Yup. that's what he is.

Also, the "tremendous" post moves he's alleged to possess don't actually exist.

I dont think there will be a SF that we can go after in the off season thats any good, i think if anything we will be trying to get a serviceable backup pointguard and wait until the Allstar break to pickup someone if we still need a backup SF.

Amir is listed at 210 lbs.!!!  I don't know of a PF in the league that weighs that little.  Matter of fact, there are likely several SG that weigh more.

That being said, I can recall Gerald Wallace HAVING to play PF due to the Bobcats being so injured last year.  However, Amir is NOT as tough as GW.

  • Rondo = Good
Amir is a PF.

Good SF we should look at signing with the MLE:  Travis Outlaw.

The only SF I'm interested in is Travis Outlaw. He'd be a perfect fit for this team.

Amir was 210lbs when he entered the league out of high school. He is now 240lbs. Also, he grew almost two inches since the draft and is now almost 6-11.

Amir doesn't know how to use his strength though. Not a physical player. A finesse defender.

Hey, I like Outlaw as much as the next guy, but there are several SF's to keep an eye on, including old pal Gomes!

It's either him or Mike Miller in free agency. one of the two would be terrific.

I'm not a fan of Amir Johnson, and I'm not convinced that Travis Outlaw is going to be somebody we can count on.

For free agent small forwards, I like Mike Miller.  The guy can play three positions, he can shoot, he can pass, he rebounds, and he plays defense.

Carlos Delfino would be another good SG/SF for us, if Milwaukee doesn't pick up his contract (which I think they will).

Rasual Butler would look great in green, as well.  Kyle Korver would be a good fit, as well.

Gomes is signed with Minny through 2011-2012, with a player option in 2012-2013. Unless you know something I don't.

I believe his contract is only partially guaranteed ($1 mil out of $4.2?), so he might be a valuable trade chip.  I think Minny would like an upgrade at that spot as well, so he might be available later in the summer.
