     I think a lot of casual fans think that coaching is not very important in basketball. I've always argued the opposite. Most people i talk to think it's more important in the other 3 major sports. I can see arguing football, hockey fans can argue i guess, but i think the baseball argument is nuts.
     These two conference championship series, with things like running two consecutive picks at rondo, and the zone defense that is suprisingly giving this phoenix team a shooting chance are very impressive coaching gameplans to me. In my opinion the pro game especially has come along way. I've actually thought of picking up some basketball coaching books just to help add to my enjoyment of the game.

  I'd say that the double picks were effective in large part to whatever physical ailment that Rondo was dealing with.

Look at the ajustments that Doc Rivers made in the 3rd quater, the Celtics ran 1 play for alot of minutes because Rondo was not able to go as he used to.

That 3rd quarter was all Doc Rivers, had he done nothing then we would have had another "Rondo with the ball, top of the key that does not attack the basket, because he's not healthy" sitiuation, he came up with a plan in the locker room and it worked.

And i think more importently or perhaps most importently during this season with the rise of Rondo, there has been questions regarding "who's the man or who's the leader on this team" but i think Doc Rivers has done a admirable job at going straight down the middle of the team and doing what i think more coaches should do in this league.. take that leadership role and be the guy who everyone turns to in tough spots instead of expecting everyone to have the same leadership capacity as Jordan or Bird.

I dont think its a players league anymore, its been shown time and time again since 2004 and i think the league is better off because of it.

Doc Rivers has ascended to the top tier of NBA coaches, not just as a motivator and manager of the human side but as a strategist. He will be employed for life. He is the hottest coach in the entire league.

And he's ours.

Yeah, whatever you think of doc as a strategist, there is no doubt that his player's like and respect him.Doc IS the leader. Excellent point.
