I hope we can bring back all of them. I don't know the specifics, but since all of them are our FA's, can we go beyond the mid-level exemption to get these guys back?

I think Nate would be awesome with a full year in the system with Doc. I also like how TA has played and think Shelden Williams is a valuable 5th big for the vet. min.

Thoughts?

I also think it is a MUST, a MUST that Ray Allen is resigned. Hopefully PP re-structures his contract to allow the C's front office to continue to have a deep, Championship squad going forward.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
I'd bring them all back other than Marquis (and Finley).

We can give 20% raises to Nate, Shelden, Finley, and Daniels.

We can give Tony and Ray whatever we want, up to a six year, max contract.

TA and RA are a must. Shelden can stay as 5th big man. Marquis will leave. I don't mind Nate as a backup PG, but C's shouldn't overpay him.

To me, for al bench players, it's always about money.  The biggest salaries go to the starters who 1) get the most minutes, and 2) are better players.  That only leaves so much to work with, so the bench becomes a matter of who'll play for what.

We can give Tony whatever we agree to because he's our guy (bird rights).  The guys on 1 year deals can get a max of 20% over their current deal per year (I believe) without touching the MLE.  That amounts to:

Nate:  4.8 mil/yr
Quisy: 2.4
Shelden: about 1.5 I think?

I wouldn't give any bench guy more than a 2 year deal.  Some might want more and get it elsewhere, but with the CBA as it is, I doubt it, unless some team thinks Nate or Quisy will be a starter or get major minutes, which is possible, but not likely (exception:  see J.Crawford, 6th man in Atlanta).

I'd gladly keep nate for 2 yrs, 3 mil each, perhaps with incentives.

I'd keep Shelden for the minimum, or 20% raise, for 2 years, if no more athletic PF is available (Warrick, even James Singleton).  He knows the rotations.  That's worth something.

Quisy:  Best of luck, dude.  I wouldn't bring him back.
TA:  I'd keep on a similar deal to Nate's.

Finley:  He wanted another ride, and this is it.  His spot needs to go to someone who can either play some minutes or at least has upside for the future.  Ditto for Scal.

Our bench would be reasonable at the 3 mil/year level for Nate, TA, and BBD.

Sheed is on a MLE deal, and we have the MLE to spend this year as well.  An athletic scoring/defending forward (PF, SF, or a bit of both a la Al Harrington) would fill out the top-10 roster rather well, with Shelden plus draft picks filling out spots 11-13/15 without totally breaking the bank.

Plus our 1st round draft pick will be a quality player as well, possibly Damien James from Texas or the 6'6 2G from Okla. St.  This is a deep draft and the C's can get a future starter at 19.

I would love to add Travis Outlaw or Harrington with the MLE.

I'm on a Nate Robinson high right now, so of course I want him back today, but that may change tomorrow.

I would bring back TA for something reasonable.  I would also consider bringing back Marquis Daniels.

I'd make sure to get Ray Allen signed first & foremost.  As someone stated Paul needs to "cut his pay" for the good of the team.
Then:
Tony Allen, at a price I'd resign him easily, he can play GREAT defense and give us minutes at 2 or 3 spots.
Finley & Scal, bye.  Scals expiring contract is more useful than him.  I would hire him and fire donny marshall or get him ready to coach.
Sheldon, I like, resign him and give him some minutes.  I would still look at trading rasheed, championship or not.
Daniels at a price yes, he is a good defender and we need backup sf.  If he was resigned he could also be packaged to improve team.  The first part of season he was our most valuable bench player (by far imo).  But fell off, big time.
Nate, has to play more & better to earn that sort of money.  I think he'll opt out for the best contract he can get.

I think we will bring back Ray.

TA could end up getting so big an offer that he can't refuse it. Maybe a big contract offer that would allow him to start in the NBA.

I think Nate goes somewhere where he can play more.

Shelden could end up signing back for little money.

Regardless of what happens with these guys there will be a lot of turnover next year.

RA is the only one that needs to be re-signed.

The rest are replaceable.  If Nate was consistent, he would have to be a resign.

I only have interest in bringing back Ray and TA, preferably both on two year deals. But, if it absolutely must be done, I'd give Ray the third year.

I understand this, just like I would love to get a Jason Williams type player to backup Rondo, but I really think Marquis Daniels deserves another shot.

Maybe its because I'm an Auburn man, but at the beginning of the season he was looking really good.

I like Daniels as well, being an SEC man, I would like to re-sign him for the reasons you stated. However, being injury prone is his m.o. IF we could sign a big wing like Outlaw or Harrington, I think that would be preferred. If not, then I think MD can be brought back on the cheap due to his injury plagued season.

The OP asked which bench players get resigned, so I leave Ray Allen out of it.  I think they should go with a NBA-minimum 13-man roster.  (You're welcome, Wyc.)

The only current 8-man-playoff-rotation guy needed to be resigned is TA, and I think that will happen.  I predict that one day TA, improbably, will be the longest-tenured Celtic.  That takes care of roster spots 1-8.

I think we'll spend the MLE on a player, draft a player at #19, and possibly buy another draft pick--to get younger--which brings the roster total to 11.

If Shelden and Scal are content with the league minimum, I would not be adverse to them filling out the roster, depending on who the new guys are.

I think Nate and Daniels will go where they can get more minutes.  If Nate was going to have worked out at backup PG, it would have happened prior to last night.  (I hope Nate makes me eat those words against the Fakes.;D
