I hear what you're saying here, but my gut still tells me you'd still need not an all-star, but at least an all-star prospect to get him. I'll come back later to see if I can argue this any clearer. I guess I just think there will be some team to offer a player who could potentially become an all-star which would be more appealing than a bunch of role players. What if Portland offered Aldridge or Oden? What if Houston offered Martin or Ariza? The Knicks offered D. Lee and Chandler? I'm sure there are others I'm not thinking of, but I just don't see Orlando's package having the talent potential to get it done here. Toronto needs some all-star potential on that roster.
Chris Bosh is unrestricted, isn't he? He's no longer the Raptor's property to trade. Toronto can't tell him who to sign with in order to get the best assets in return. The Blazers can't offer Toronto Aldridge or Oden unless Bosh agrees to sign a contract with them. They could extract a higher price from Orlando than, say, the Nets because the Magic couldn't sign him without the Raptor's help but they won't get offers from multiple teams, Bosh will.
Right. That's what I meant when I said I see what you're saying here that Toronto doesn't get to take the best offer, they take whatever situation Bosh likes best. But Toronto could always say "No, Bosh, we want this which could also be a good situation for you. So take this
and the more money, or good luck in the open market ending up trying to be the #1 option on a crappy team while signing a smaller contract." I don't think Toronto is quite in the situation of complete strength like this mock quote somewhat hints at, but isn't at Bosh's mercy incredibly more than Bosh is at their mercy also. Bosh will need Toronto's help to make more money and also to get on a team over the cap which will likely be more competitive.
To get Pau Gasol, LA needed to send.... um.... OK, nevermind maybe it is possible.
The Grizz got Pau's brother, who is a better fit for them than Pau was and a quality, long-term player. Got a big expiring contract and two first rounders.
They didn't do that bad.
The only way a Bosh addition to Orlando = dynasty is by getting rid of tank Carter along with some divine intervention.
I agree to an extent. Notice I said you need to get a "prospect" back. Some people, obviously Memphis, would say Marc Gasol was a solid prospect. Some others would say he was a crapshoot. I say he was somewhere in the middle, but has obviously panned out more towards prospect which was what I originally stated the team must get back in return to trade away an allstar. Crittendon could also be argued to have been a decent prospect in that deal who obviously didn't pan out.
I don't see any of the players Orlando getting back in the proposed deal to even be any kind of real prospect. I think there are tons of teams that could offer better and Bosh would be happy signing with at least one of them.
