the team is reeling. techs, possible suspensions (luckily avoided), injuries, momentum is lost. the team had a big time chance to close the door in game 4, left it open, now it almost seems as though they are down 3-2.

doc needs to settle these guys. i am not the world's biggest doc fan but it does not matter. the guys in that locker room love him and they love playing for him. he needs to remind them of the dominant team they were for the first 14 games of this playoffs. he needs to be emotional. he needs to be convincing. I think he blew it big time by not calling a timeout at the tail end of game 4, especially since most experts believe he is the best in the game at drawing up plays coming out of a timeout.

doc needs to let these guys know that although it is not the romp it once was, they are still in the driver's seat and they are playing at home in front of the best fans in the nba, all of whom will be out for blood tomorrow night.
"Maybe now you'll never slime a guy with a positron collider, huh?"

he's being subtle, but is making his point that the physicality of the series needs to be allowed both ways. i think this is the smart way to do it - don't make a huge deal about it, but make it clear it's not right.
Quote
"We're very concerned [by Perkins' six technicals], but Kendrick has to be allowed to play, he has to be allowed to be physical," said Rivers. "It's amazing how this [series] has gone so far. Kendrick has been in foul trouble and he's not the most physical player on the court, that's Dwight Howard. I keep telling him, be as physical as Dwight and he says, 'Yeah, but I end up in foul trouble.' We're just trying to get Perk to be Perk, not to be concerned with fouls and technicals. But that's very difficult to do."

this is good, and he also made some comments about "i guess we need to get out of the way of his elbows", but i mean what he does behind closed doors with the team. they need their swagger back and put all the distractions and negativity behind them.

Quality statement by Doc.

Now, work with Rondo to get him to get over the screens. Get the forwards to rotate and box out.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

doc and perk make a good point. i rarely see howard called for type of fouls that perk gets. conversely, i see howard get away with all sorts of physical play and not get called, but perk would be called for it.

what frustrates me quite a bit about this series is the very uneven and inconsistent refereeing.

but regardless, perk had to control his temper. as does wallace.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.
