Corrupt or not, the main reason the NBA gets put under such a huge microscope when it comes to the officials is the relationships players have with refs in the NBA.
Please show me another sport where players are allowed to argue calls at such length with officials and not be thrown out of a game? Or penalized?
Discussions happen sometimes in football, but flags get thrown before it even gets half as heated as in the NBA. Baseball players have been thrown out of games by homeplate umpires for less than some of the things NBA players are allowed to say to refs.
My point is, if players are allowed to argue with officials at such a length to where they could influence them, Lord only knows the discussions the league has with the officials to influence how they would call a game.
Thats the difference between the NBA and other sports.
No, the real difference between the NBA and other sports is in other sports the officials are doing there job and putting the game first.
In the NBA the Ref's put themselves first, and the game second.
in what other sport could you imagine a official challenging a player to a fight in a playoff game, then throwing that player out for laughing? how about throwing a ball at a fan?
how about giving this explanation to a player for a foul?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDM2eGpf5Hcthe fact that salvator is concerned with the crowd's opinion of him and called a tech on iverson because he "brought the crowds mood down" is EXACTLY the problem.
In the NBA, the refs want to be part of the story, not faceless officials as it should be, and is in every other sport.
