Now that the CB Historical Draft is nearing it's end, we get to look back and vote on who were the best of the best for that era. Here is the first. If you want to vote for a player not listed, just post their name here.

Gonna go with Mutombo.

Gets a slight nod over Ben Wallace.

I think it has to be Rodman. He was a shut down defender at three different positions.

Dream..no question. Man could guard all positions on the floor..very agile for his size, with exceptional quickness.

No Tim Duncan on the initial list?

I went with KG over him due to his pick and roll defense.

Rodman, hands down.

Pippen is the best defensive wing, Dikembe is the best defensive center (although Hakeem is very close).

No disrespect, but Dikembe Mutumbo isn't better than Dream defensively.

Mutumbo couldn't guard all 5 spots.

Good Discussion, though.

Hakeem couldn't guard five spots, either.

Also, when I'm talking best defensive center, it's in regard to guarding opposing centers.  I think Dikembe was probably the best at that, although both Hakeem and Mourning in their prime were pretty darn close.

Dikembe, Hakeem and Mourning. In that order for best defensive center. I think the difference between Motumbo and Dream is slight with the difference between Zo and Dream being much wider.

That said, I still say the best defender of the era was Rodman who could defend 5 positions and and could shut down 3 positions. He wouldn't get a lot of sexy blocks or steals but he would force you into a bad shot and rebound the miss like no ones business.

Yeah, I agree with all of that.

Off-topic, but prime Rodman vs. prime McHale, who do you take?  I've got McHale by a nose.  McHale couldn't necessarily defend five positions, but he defended three of them very, very well.

Ooh. That's close. I'ld take McHale for three reasons. One, he's just a much better offensive player. Two, he could shut down the center position, which Rodman couldn't. And three, he was a Celtic.

Ok..Great Discussion about Centers, but do you all have any stastical proof of Dikembe being better than Hakeem?

The only one I could find was 4 Defensive Player of the Year awards for Dikembe to 2 for Hakeem.
