I have been accused of being a Brett Farve hater (guilty).

I now have a new theory.

Brett Farve and Lebron James are actually the same person.

Seriously. Follow me here. Both of them have been appointed by the media for really no reason.

It's like the media got together and said "Let's get athletes with sub par accomplishments and then shove them down people's throats and pretend they're like the best athletes that ever played the game."

Then someone in the back said "Yeah. It won't matter how dumb they act or how bad they wet the bed in crunch time. If we worship them everyone else will have to too.

"But wait. Wait guys. That's only half the equation. We also have to decide to totally ignore really really great athletes that actually win"

"Yeah. Like if the Patriots win 3 Super Bowls in 4 years as the only team of the salary cap era to do so make sure none of their players ever get a commercial".

"Yeah. And it doesn't matter if they do something horrid or get caught cheating or anything either? Cheat on the wife horridly? Get accused of steroids by other champions? Be in the get away car when a guy gets killed! It won't matter!"

"And we have to make sure what these guys do in the offseason gets more air time than actual winners. Like if one of them can't decide what team to play for or gets minor ankle surgery cover it extensively as long as possible!"

Ok. Ok. We have to decide who to appoint.

How about these guys? Lebron James. Dwight Howard. Brett Farve. Peyton Manning. Tiger Woods. Ray Lewis. Those are the guys.

I like the Brett Farve and LeBron James comparison because they're both prima donas.

I wouldn't lump those other guys in there, though.  You may not like them, but it weakens the analogy, IMHO.

Farve and Manning at least have won championships, LeBron hasn't even won a game in a Finals series.

Did you just argue that Tiger has been anointed by the media?

It is my understanding that Tom Brady turns nearly every commercial/advertisement down.

I've seen Brady in some pretty ridiculous print ads.

Been reading a lot of brain typing material and how it relates to sports stars. According to Niednagel, Favre, Manning, and Danny Ainge share the same type. It's funny that they all seem to rub certain people the wrong way if you root against their team, but they are all pretty much fantastic leaders.

Lebron and Magic are allegedly wired the same way as each other. Makes a good amount of sense.

I think we have the brain doctor to thank a bit for our success. He has to be a decent contributor to drafting players like Rondo, Jefferson, and Perkins. And I just saw Danny Ainge taking in the Draft Combine alongside Niednagel and his son, Austin.

Sort of. I admit my argument is weakest there.  He is essentially a top 5 (possibly top 1) golfer.

But I would definitely say he had a big following before he won much and was a mega star after one big performance (albeit one of the biggest performances on one of the biggest stages ever).

But I would definitely say this. The man is disgraced. Phil Mickelson just won. Again. Where are the Phil Mickelson advertisements and where have they been? Instead I'm still seeing Tiger stuff.

One big issue.

Lebron has never won a title.

Right. But he also didn't throw game losing interceptions multiple times in crunch time in championship games like Peyton and Brett.

I was also juuuussstttt thinking to myself yesterday "hmmm. It's been a long time since I heard anything from Danica Patrick", turned on the TV and there she was complaining about something.

Yeah, Phil always seems to do pretty well.... when Tiger isn't playing.

Sorry, I just don't think Tiger is overrated in the same way that Favre and LBJ are.  Tiger in the Top 5 golfers?  I'd put him in the category of Top 5 athletes.  The guy is a competitor, and knows how to win.

Tiger was playing last month.  Oh right. His own actions led to him playing poorly. I put that excuse right up there with "My little dawg died and therefore my swing was affected."

Tiger didn't play in the 2004 and 06 Masters?

Tiger is simply the best golfer playing, and one of the best golfers ever (probably top two, and maybe the best).  The "Tiger slam" and 14 majors wins pretty much erase any doubts about how good the guy is.  He's a scumbag of a husband, but an amazing golfer.

Manning and Lebron would never take training camp or preseason off.

Manning and Lebron would never go under the knife just to miss practice.

I agree with you that Tiger, especially pre-scumbaginess, had totally earned everything he had, but the worship started well before that.

Also I still see Jordan ads all the time. I'm seeing Joe Montana ads. I've seen two ads with Dr. J since his retirement. Saw one with Larry Bird during the Super Bowl

Where are the Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer ads? I've seen about 12 million Tiger ads and not one of these guys. Is Tiger that much better than these guys.

The same thing happens in tennis. I've seen about a million Sharapova, Williams sisters, and Agasi ads, and not one Federer or Sampras. I guess I see McEnroe. No Connors.

I'm just getting tired of not having to be the best to be hyped and appointed.

I think there's also been one or two attempts to pre hype a guy and set them up for hype, then when they failed the hype machine pulled out asap.  I think Felipe Lopez and Sebastian Telfair and definitely Greg Oden were on that list.

LeRoid doesn't have the most wins at his position either. We havn't heard a lot about Favre this offseason, kind of strang for a guy that has to have attention 24/7.

Favre is not perfect, but I can tell you he had a right to be angry with Teddy with how the guy was "building" the team. You think Jordan would have stuck around if Chicago made it clear they didn't want to win with him in his last few years? That's what Thompson did.
Back to wanting Joe fired.
