1984 was a lot of Ra'Ra'Ra', a type of base emotionalism which disrupted Showtime in prime time. Realize in '84, Celts had the best record and HCA.
When Magic sloppily ran out the clock, after Henderson's steal in game 2, the Lakers still pounced on the Celts in game 3 before Bird got mad and called everyone sissies. Then, that Ra'Ra' resulted in the McHale-Rambis clothesline and all hell broke loose (Ra'Ra' back-to-back Ra'Ra'), for games 4 & 5 with the Celtics, one game ahead. But even then, the Lakers didn't fold. Instead, there was one last Ra'Ra' and that was Maxwell's greatest moment in history ... "Hop on my back and I'll take you there!" Yes, Max's demon possession, before game 7, resulted in us winning the '84 title more than anything else.
This year, however, it's Fo'Fo'Fo', a sense of calm determinism where emotions do fly loose, from time to time, but don't form the identities of the Ws. Instead, it's a pure basketball wonder ... kinda like Aerosmith's "Dream On", the first Star Wars series, and for an more ominous analogy, the Eye of Sauron. This postseason has been about slowly cracking down the opponents into their base elements, and then flushing 'em down the drain.
