Oh, and here's another thing: When LeBron James switches his dribbling home around the Great Lakes from Erie to Michigan, he'll bring his own coach with him.

It'll be Doc Rivers.

Now you can move on with the rest of your lives.

What I just said isn't a done deal, but only because it is slightly an eternity between now and July 1, when teams officially can begin negotiating with free agents. I mean, James could search deep into his soul, discover that he really doesn't wish to leave the area of his birth and youth in northeastern Ohio and reverse some of those curses on Cleveland sports teams by declaring he'll stay with the Cavaliers.

As for Rivers, his Boston Celtics could win a second world championship in three years this June, and then he could decide to remain with the Big Three for a shot at a third in four years. He also has a year left on his contract. So, when the Bulls ask the Celtics for permission to buy out Rivers' final season, the Celtics could do the illogical thing by telling their coach who wants to go elsewhere that he isn't allowed to leave.

Then you have the Bulls, who could shrug over remaining in a free-fall since Michael Jordan left in the late 1990s and refuse to allow James to dictate the terms of his signing.

You also could have little green men invading Earth.

There are about 98 reasons this won't happen, but I'll let you guys take this one.

Doc has said repeatedly that he'll stick with the Celtics or retire.  I think credibility means a lot to him, and I expect that he'll stick to his word.

Even though James and Rose have been the primary ball handlers for their respective teams, James only was doing so to appease Cavaliers coach Mike Brown, more of a defensive than an offensive guy.

So, if Lebron had his way, he'd take the ball out of his own hands?  That doesn't seem consistent with the mindset of the player that I've watched since he was a rookie.

It's hard to see someone like Doc jumping ship from a title contender to another title contender in the same summer ... especially if he isn't pushed out the door.

I expect he'll take a year or two, maybe more, away from the game and then come back with another team ... when he eventually does leave the Celtics.

Well, I have to assume he was referring to James initiating the offense constantly from the top of the key rather than receiving the ball in different spots around the court. I think.

As the years go by and the more Lebron refuses to refine his game, I am starting to think he picked the wrong sport.

I trust that Doc is fundamentally a good and honest man, or at least as good and honest as you will see coaching in the NBA.  The anti-Larry Brown.  *IF* he walks away from the C's, it'll be because he does want to spend time with his family, wants to see his kid play ball, wants to take a little time off before he completely burns out.  

Every coach in the league, when they leave a job, claims it's to spend more time with their family; after watching Doc for what, six years now, I trust that he really means that.  

Doc's got a cushy gig all lined up at TNT whenever he wants it, they'll make room for him in the booth.  I'd wager Jeff Van Gundy's employed somewhere next fall, anyway.  He'll slide into JVG's seat, do color commentary on some games...  take time off to see his kids play, recharge his batteries, and in a years' time start looking for another opportunity to coach.  

Doc's either coaching the C's in the fall, or he's working for TNT part-time.  Not a chance in hell he's coaching anywhere else next season.

Maybe, if he does step down, he can come back and be the third man in the booth at a couple C's games...  take Cooz' spot, maybe when the C's are playing down in Florida.

Doc's a family man foremost, he's said he wants to spend more time with his family in Orlando. It makes ZERO sense that he'd relocate further out to Chicago.

Granted, he is from the area. But with his son being a popular High Senior basketball player, I don't see him uprooting his family.

ORLANDO — An unsourced rumor on the AOL FanHouse website Monday night linked Doc Rivers and LeBron James to the Chicago Bulls as part of a package deal. Rivers denied it Tuesday morning as the team went through a shootaround in preparation for Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against the Magic.

“It’s the first time I’ve heard it, but no,” Rivers told WEEI.com. “That’s silly.”

Rivers is a Chicago native, and the Bulls do have a head coaching vacancy after they fired Vinny Del Negro. But Rivers has a year left on his contract with the Celtics and he has maintained that he will either be with the Celtics or he will spend the year in Orlando, where his family has a home.

Wow, isn't it enough that LeBron got to wear Jordan's number straight out of high school and won league MVP two years in a row? Appearently David Stern is a genie in a bottle because for some reason LeBron's every wish is Stern's command. I'm suprised LeBron hasn't wished to win a ring yet - oh, wait you actually have to beat teams in the playoffs to do that, instead of just storming off after being eliminated by the Magic and then claiming to be 'a winner' in a later press conferece.
