Obviously this is an opinion based on my observation so this is not intended to be an exact science and other Celtic Blog opinions may vary.

2008

LeBron James and Kobe Bryant = 10.0 Skill Scale
KG = 9.9
PP = 9.8
RA = 8.9
RR = 7.5

Total for 2008 Big 4 = 36.1

2010

Same Scale as 2008 where LBJ = KB = 10.0 in 2008
RR = 9.5
KG = 9.1
PP = 9.0
RA = 8.5

Total for 2010 Big 4 = 36.1 ~ 2008 Big 4 Skill Numbers

The point I am making is that Rajon Rondo skills incline makes up for the Big 3 skills decline.

I'm factoring in defense, regular season and the fact that he had to play against LBJ most of the time.

ray played great D on lebron. he did struggle in the regular season at some points but for most of the games in the playoffs, he's been huge. pierce-not so much

PP made the All-Star Team and RA did not.

specific numbers aside, I agree with your sentiment. Right now the big 4 of today are just as good as the big 3 of 2008 + a very inconsistent Rajon Rondo.

Rondo's game improvement over 2 years is huge.

Ray is about the same, if not better - remember he was playing injured in 2008. His peak as a Celtic was in 2009.

KG and Pierce have dropped off a little, yet are still about 5th best in the NBA at their positions.

KG was voted in by the fans whereas PP was voted in by coaches. Coaches vote is more respected because they know more than the average fan.

I forgot about RA's struggles in 2008 so lets say RA is slightly better than in 2008. Maybe he's on par with PP and KG now and didn't make the All-Star Team due to psychological factors of worrying about possibly being traded. Then 2010 Big 4 Skills are greater than 2008's. We should be in good shape if that's the case.  ;D
