• Nba officiating just happens to be biased in a way that increases revenues.
  
• Lebron averages a foul a game and is routinely allowed to travel.
• Cleveland goes entire quarters without getting a foul called on them.
  
• An official goes to jail for gambling related charges and says he's not the only one.
• Certain officials have outlying records for certain teams and yet they get assigned to ref games involving these teams in the playoffs.

Of all the professional sports, basketball is the one that makes you wonder if you are watching theater or not. Is this wrestling?

With the score 10-8 Cleveland, Pierce got HAMMERED going to the hoop--NO CALL by Salvatore (he was right there and SHOULD have called an OBVIOUS foul)--Cavs rebound the "miss"--and it leads to that Flagrant foul by Perk...LeBron makes BOTH free throws,they get the ball and score again...14-8 Cavs---when it should have been tied----Seems the C's kinda gave up right there.

I agree, but this thread is not just about last night's game. I think the NBA could do a lot more to dispel the notion that the league tries to manipulate outcomes through ref assignments and policies. For example, they could easily have internet broadcasts of ref assignment lotteries. They could penalize refs who are statistical outliers instead of rewarding them with playoff games. They could publicly admit (have a running blog for example) to blown calls.

I've long railed against officiating in the NBA. Of all professional sports, it's maybe the hardest to officiate properly, yet the NBA makes little effort to improve it year to year.

Okay I am tired of all this, really...So when we win we are the best team in the NBA nobody can stop us, banner 18 is just a matter of a month away, KG is back to his old form, Rondo will be future MVP, we need to resign ray.

When we lose, we have no heart, the refs fixed the game, fans weren't enthusiastic enough, blah blah blah.

Can we just realistically agree that we witnessed the MVP playing like a MVP and we got taken to school by the Cavs? We did not make any types of adjustments what so ever lebron's dominance. So he just kept on feeding onto his initial success.

Come on fellow CB users, we can't become like sore losers, making excuses for every loss we experience. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't, let's follow the mentality of the team and put this one behind us. Save the energy from posting complaints on threads and being a sore loser. Instead, let's use that energy to cheer for our beloved Celtics.

I have said all along that Salvatore is the worst official, but I don't think he's the most biased.  Salvatore just makes up rules as he goes along, and calls things that don't make any sense.  Remember the Piston vs Celtics series in '08 where Pierce upfaked, had Prince land on him, and still made the three pointer, yet the ref called a ridiculous "offensive foul" on Pierce?  Yeah, that's typical Bennette Salvatore.

As I said, this is not about last night's game. It's a question about whether or not the NBA does anything to improve officiating or likes the fact that certain officials are predictably unfair. There are a lot of signs, statistical and otherwise, that everything does *not* even out in the end.

Nobody in the media points it out because they are scared of being shut out.

The fact that you can make a living betting on officiating bias is a problem imho.

No, it doesn't. It's the one that convinces me there are a lot of fans who don't understand the subtleties of NBA rules, which are not the same as college basketball.

People just aren't going to admit that the Celtics may not be as talented or as tough as Cleveland, and they're going to work overtime to concoct excuses.

If it makes them feel better, fine. They're not correct, but at least they feel better.

They don't win or lose games for the Celtics. Never have, never will.

This ongoing discussion in this year's playoffs is nothing more than fan whining, particularly in game one - where the loss was absolutely attributable to the Celtics' refusal to stick with a game plan.

This place is being turned into Real GM by people who simply refuse to face the truth: this team has been wildly inconsistent all year, and it continues to be wildly inconsistent. It won't change until the roster changes. Blame around here seems to land everywhere - referees, fans, even Doc - except where it belongs: on the backs of the players who can't or won't execute consistently like champions.

Last night, this team didn't even mail it in. They put it in an envelope, and then, said, NAH, going to the mailbox takes too much effort.

But that being said, the officiating was indeed horrible, and some of those calls during the first quarter were not merely suspect, but clearly issued in favor of the league's favorite team that Stern wants to go head to head with Kobe and the Lakers (TV ratings).

Mind you, I believe that the Cavs are better than the C's this year, but at the same time, believe that you play the games, because you never know. The C's may be inconsistent, but they are still amongst the top 8 teams in the league. And the C's just stopped playing after the officials' horrendous calls were going against them.

Btw, Doc needs to get ejected when his team is getting whistled and the Cavs are not, and when his team needs something to wake them up. I would definitely appreciate his sacrifice of 2 foul shots.

Just my 2 cents (maybe a little more than 2).
