LeBron is unguardable when he turns and faces out of the post from inside of 15 feet. It is one dribble to the middle of the paint and elevation of the defender for a high percentage short shot. Luckily for us, he doesn't use that weapon often enough.
His back to the basket post game is more rudimentary.
Luckily for us, Mike Brown can't figure out how to get him the ball closer than 40 feet from the basket.
TP.
This is too true. LeBron needs to work on his post game, for sure. Guards like Ray Allen and Kobe Bryant can still contain him because of his tendancy to try to score off the dribble or with a perimeter look. if he could invest more in his turn-around jumper, especially against guys who he has a height advantage he would become that much more dangerous with the likes of Shaq, Big Z, JJ Hickson and Varejao clogging up the paint.
To give an example of another young player who has recently improved their post game I'd have to mention Dwight Howard; last year he didn't have many finesse moves in the paint and relied too much on his ability to dunk the ball in order to score a majority of his points (Howard is a notoriously poor free-throw shooter). After appearing in the NBA Finals vs the Lakers last year, this season Howard has added to his game the ability to make short jumpers in the paint, sky hooks with either hand, layups and turn around shots, etc. All of that combined with his dunking prowess that granted him an NBA Dunk contest title has transformed Howard from a guy who just camped in the paint down low and grabbed offensive boards into a serious low post threat. I've even seen him make 3-pointers in games (NBA all-star game for example).
If LeBron supplimented his athletic, slashing playing style with some more front-court moves, i.e. just copped a few pages from Shaq and Kareem he would become that much more efficient at scoring down-low. Even guys like Kobe and Rondo have a whole arsenal of tricks that they like to employ in the post - both players are capable of pulling Hakeem's imfamous dream-shake and Kobe in particular is quite comfortable playing with his back to the basket.
