How much is Kendrick Perkins worth?

All of the Perkins trade/value talk has me wondering...

If you are the Celtics GM/Owner, how much would you be willing to pay Kendrick Perkins in the summer of 2011?

I have to imagine that it will take at least a 4 year deal to keep him.

Bear in mind that the more you pay him, the less cap space you will have in 2012 - and that could be the difference between trying to lure 1 star player or 2 star players.

Please reply with any specific thoughts (for example: I would try to get him for such and such amount, but this is the max I'd be willing to go). The survey is specifically looking for the max you are willing to pay.

I would give Perk a 4 yr 32 mil deal. Don't think I would go much over 8 mil per. Perk's contract won't be up until after next year when the owners will try to rework the CBA, which means players are going to be taking paycuts.


If you can get a youngish all-star or a draft pick who you think has the potential to be an all-star big man, I think you have to trade Perk.

I voted 9 mil, but that is wishful thinking. I'm sure his camp will aim for 11ish.

I think so, but I believe you can negotiate an extension this summer. If there is a lockout, and if there is at least a partial season with prorated salaries, what do you do with Perkins?

The reason for my 1 million per year drop, is that I feel that Perkins has reached his potential. Whereas last spring I thought he was showing signs of going to another level.. a slighty higher level.

Would you do a Ray(s+t) + Perk to Alt for Joe Johnson and ZAZA?


For me it depends on how far we go in the playoffs, but a trade like that could make a lot of sense for both teams.

For atlanta it would move Horford and Smith to their natural positions of SF + PF. Better for them to get something for Joe Johnson than just letting him walk at the end of the year.

For Boston they get a youngish all-star to team with Rondo in the backcourt for the next 5 years

They would then use pick #19 on a big man to develope

I strongly feel the need to know what the next CBA will be about because that is what I would base my decision on. Bad part is that the management might need to make a decision on him this summer if they don't think he is worth what he will demand on the open market.

It's pretty clear that Dwight Howard will be roaming around this eastern conference for the foreseeable future and that is a scary thought without Perk. Great defensive player Al Horford simply can't handle Dwight. But perk can.

I'd go with 8m, but I doubt that's acceptable to his agent. Wouldn't be surprised to see the Jazz nibble again this summer. A great defensive big seems to be their only chance vs. the Lakers. Their lottery pick continues to intrigue me.

Hmmm, lets say Joe Johnson requires 15 million per yer for 5 years, he'd be still making big money at age 33 in that final year. Yes, I would definitely make that trade.

Pachulia is still a very decent center, and Johnson is a stud, and should remain an all star for the next few years. He'd look great running with Rondo.

Would Atlanta be willing to do that deal? Perhaps only if Johnson is determined to leave.

On the other hand, if Joe Johnson wants 18-20 million per year, I'd pass. But I don't think anyone would go that high. Then again I never thought Rashard Lewis would get what he got.

If the CBA changes drastically you are more than welcome to change your mind. I'm just looking for a gut reaction for now. '
Yeah, I hear you about the Dwight factor, and that makes the Perk decision brutal.

perk's the most likely C to be traded this offseason. i predict him going to a western conference team in need of size for a late lottery pick. NO and HOU would make some sense.

Perk = $8 million
Rest of roster = $7 million worth of draft picks + empty roster cap holds

A total of say $27 million against a cap of $55-60 million giving a rough estimate of $30 million in cap space.

I don't see a Kendrick Perkins contract being that burdensome to the Celtics 2012 free agency plans.

Rondo's non-max contract ($11 million) creates enough flexibility to hold onto Perkins and still retain enough cap flexibility to add two elite players in the future.

How about Perk and Davis to Memphis for Marc Gasol and Thabeet/or a draft pick?

Would give us Gasol (bigger and better defender than his brother) who can also provide some offense, and Thabeet being a 7+ foot project who could benefit from tutoring by Clifford Ray, KG and Sheed (dare I imply he would be a good influence), not to mention practicing on a regular basis against Gasol.
