This might have been brought up, and if so I do apologize.  Shaq's tap of his own miss with 1:01 left was the most egregious offensive interference NO CALL ever.  The ball was not really close, but close to HALF the ball was still IN the cylinder.  We were down by three BEFORE the refs decided to close their eyes and their rule books and rewards big FATTY for his tough effort and cleaning up his first two bricks.

When that happened, the game was OVER.

That should NEVER happen in an NBA game. NEVER.  This league is a DISGRACE.

Yeah ... the overhead shot clearly showed that over half the ball was over the rim ... but nothing we can do about those calls. Gone with the wind.

I dont think it was a goal tend. WHat is was was horrible defensive rebounding by Perk and the rest of the team. Plus a horrible decision for no one to foul him. Put the big fella on the line dont let him get 3 offensive rebounds in a row.

We lost the game in the third with our defensive collapse and the Cavs making adjustments.  Not because of the refs.

It makes no difference now except as a talking point, but more than half of the ball was over the cylinder when Shaq tapped it in ... how can that not be a goal-tend?!?

I also didn't think it a goal tend and I disagree that over half the ball was over the cylinder when he touched it. At first I thought it was but I think the overhead shot clearly established that the ball was off the cylinder when he tapped it in.

Pearljammer,

Did you even see the replay?  Do you know what a goal tend is?

I am totally astonished that either of you could possibly not call that a goal tend.  I guess that you both thought that the charge call on Rondo was legit despite the guy CLEARLY sliding and moving under him??

Actually, the overhead shot was what confirmed that it was clearly goal-tending.

Yea, I thought the overhead shot was pretty much indisputable that the ball was still hanging over the rim.

I just can't get to upset with goal-tending calls.

Unless there is an official hanging above the rim, it is all about the angle at with the official sees it from.

What I am upset about is that we have two seemingly well informed C's fans and NBA fans that say the overhead replay and then determined that it was NOT a goal tend.  Wow.  It does make my blood boil a bit.  I was at a sports bar watching on about a 15 x 20 foot screen right in front of it and it was CLEARLY, without dispute, a goal tend.  It should have been our ball, down 3, with 1 minute to play.

Hey Nick Agenta and Pearljam, did you think that the charge on RR on the break away was a legit call too???

Then don't post in a forum where fans have different opinions.

This is not the place to call out posters just because they have a different opinion.

It was offensive goaltending - if any portion of the ball is over any portion of the rim, it's illegal to touch it.  Just frame-by-framed the replay and although the ball was clearly on its way out, about 1/4 of the ball was still over the rim when Shaq tapped it.

This wasn't what cost us the game, but it sure didn't help.

EDIT:  Nope, I'm wrong.  Rulebook says: "Players ARE allowed to tap, touch or rebound a shot attempt when the ball has rolled to the outside edge of the basket ring and no longer has a chance to score."  The shot was partly over the rim, but clearly on its way out, so it's a legal tap.  I misunderstood the rule.

TP to Samuel Adams for posting it.
