Celtics #2 in merchandise sales

Considering the Celtics are supposed to be so hated, and old news, I was pleased to learn that they still hold the #2 spot in merchandise sales behind the Lakers.

KG's jersey was #3 and Pierce's jersey was # 8.

This actually gave me a little hope for the reffing in the next series. The Celtics winning equals lots of money for the NBA - ratings and merchandise.

Obviously the ratings for Cleveland vs LA would be huge, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a rematch between Boston and LA could even be bigger. The masses love a great sequel. Lakers - Celtics is very hard to beat. That's like Red Sox - Yankees.

Also keep in mind that Cavs vs Spurs in 2007 was pretty much the lowest rated NBA finals ever. And don't just blame the Spurs. They rated better when they played the freaking Detroit Pistons.

C'mon Stern! Lets officiate this one fairly! And if the C's advance you can swim in the pile of riches like uncle scrooge!

What do y'all think? Do we even have a chance with Stern and the officials in this one?

I agree, there is no replacement for a Celtics / Lakers final. People may think it's Cavs vs. Lakers. But if you want some real fire and heat, these two teams ( Celts and Lakers ) DO NOT LIKE EACH OTHER, AT ALL.

It is the basketball equivalent of Red Sox vs Yankees or the football equivalent of Pittsburgh vs Dallas.

It's the best possible match up for alot of reasons.

Heck it might be in Stern's best interest to see James loose, then bolt to the Knicks, to resurrect a financial beast!

Rondo made the list at #15. I'm very pleasantly surprised by this.

I definitely agree that marketing the Celtics/Lakers makes sense from the team perspective because of the historic rivalry. But the NBA doesn't care about teams anymore it's all about individual players so I can see how they'd think a Lakers/Cavs finals would be better. If that ever happened I won't be surprised if it wasn't as big a ratings draw as they think.

I know! Didn't expect to see him there. I did see Nate but I think it's mostly from his Knicks jersey. IIRC he's been one of the best-sellers in the past.
