If Doc is really leaving after this season, we should concentrate on lure Larry Brown away from the Bobcats/Sixers.
Why?
a)Probably the best coach in the NBA other than Jackson/Popovich.
b) Won a ring.
c) Could discipline our team (possible internal factions).
d) Only coach who can put the untradable Rasheed on the line (Detroit).

I supose Brown would prefer to coach the Celtics rather than the Sixers or the Bobcats...

Well, he says that he wants to go back to Philly for family reasons.  We'll see.  I agree, I'd love to see LB here for a couple seasons if/when Doc walks.  I think he's got the gravitas among the veteran folks where we won't see nearly the coasting that we saw through much of the season.

He's not the coach you want when it's time to rebuild, but if you're trying to squeeze one last run out of this squad, he'd be the best choice (IMHO).

Eh, I have a feeling if Doc leaves, it is because this team's window is closed, and I really do not like Larry Brown on non-championship level teams.  He is the type of coach that likes a certain type of player, and often gives talent to get that.

I also don't know if Brown would be that interested in coming here, since he likes total control, and he would not get that with Danny on board.

Larry Brown coaching the divas on this Celtics team. Coach Brown hasn't coached a team with this many egos.

Can not Play with them, Can not win with them, Can not coach with them, Can’t Do It.

Love Coach Brown. But I can't see it working.

You don't think the Detroit teams he coached had this many egos?  I think they were at least close.

And Iverson on the 6ers blows this team away all by himself.

Van Gundy because he'd probably keep Tom Thibodeau as defensive coach.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I disagree 1000%.  Jeff Van Gundy is the one and only choice.  Larry Brown is a head case, and never stays anywhere more than 2 years.  Van Gundy is the perfect guy to start a new legacy as we transition into the Rondo era.

I also can't get over Larry Brown's "promiscuity".  He's coached half the teams in the NBA already.  Something inside me says he should not get to add the Celtics as another notch on his bed post.  The thought of him coaching our team makes me queasy, and I aint talkin' Daniels.

I don't want that Tarhole scum on our team. "Play the right way." Sure thing Brown. You bail on the Piston's. Help screw up the Knicks (thank you) and then wanted money for it. Now you coach the Bobcats and possibly want out of your contract to go to another team because your wife won't move to Charlotte.

He was looking to get our job and thought he had it before Pitino got it. He could still be p---ed about that but I doubt. Not like the same people are here now that gave him the shaft back then.
Peace through Tyranny

I'd take a chance on Larry Brown over JVG. I think Larry would love coaching the Celtics, while for JVG it would be just another coaching opportunity. I agree it would be risky, but think it would be worth it. We will be pretty much the same team next year (assuming we re-sing Ray) and Larry can help us get our defensive mojo back. He would probably be able to utilize Tony Allen effectively. TA is a LB player. Would also love Rondo, me thinks. Me hopes.

Chances are, Doc will still be back for one more go at it.

TP Chris and Chief. I agree with your thoughts.

Larry Brown coaches the most boring teams to watch. No thanks. I'll pass on LB.

I feel you go the other way and Rick Carlisle is hired.  If Dallas folds Cuban might fire him.  He would be just what this team needs.
no van gundy

Another vote or JVG here, always been a fan of his as a coach though it did take him a little too long to realize The Knicks ability to run that took them to the finals the strike shortened year. Strike shortened but a number 8 seed none-the-less.

Also, I can't agree with your characterization of JVG. Why do you think it would "just be another coaching opportunity" to him? Here is a guy who wasn't a player, who has dedicated his entire life to basketball, I think he knows and respects history pretty well, has a clear love and respect for the game, is a great defensive coach (Thibs is his protoge), hasn't jumped around endlessly like Larry Brown who is barely able to stay at a job more than two or three years whereas both of Van Gundy's head coaching stays have been lengthy. If anything Larry Brown's flakiness is more problematic.

JVG has my vote too, He would be the best person to replace Doc. Larry Brown jus trubs me the wrong way. We need a guy who would be dedicated to the organization, not to his ego.
