Sheed was fined 35k for publically criticizing officiating according to the AP.

Anybody know what he said?

That the refs suck.

I really don't know, but I think this is a very accurate guess.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
His comments:

Quote
"At times I know they’re out there baiting me like the other night in Game 1 with those two quick fouls,’’ Wallace said. "I know that certain referees were trying to bait me to get a tech. You could see it coming from a mile away. Like I say, I don’t like to be cheated. I can deal with a loss. I can deal with playing bad. I can deal with getting my [butt] busted. I just don’t like to be cheated. Bottom line.’’

That’s one thing I always try to tell the guys,’’ Wallace said. "We also have to look out for the Wade factor. You know how that is, with the TV ratings and all this. Not taking away or saying that he’s not a good player, don’t get me wrong, but I mean, come on. You know what it is. It’s about the business game as opposed to the basketball game.’’

In other words, it was a pretty weak fine.

My thoughts are these:

*Rasheed doesn't like money.  At 35 years old and, what, 15 years in the pro business, he knows what to say and what gets fined.  Hey Sheed, if  you're reading this, shut up, save the cash, and give it to some worthy endeavor or something.

*Rasheed didn't criticize "a" call, but questioned the integrity of the officials themselves (baiting) and the NBA as a whole (business calls v. b-ball calls).  Why would someone watch NBA basketball if they took Sheed's statements to heart?  How many companies could get away with telling their clients/customers that their product is pure fantasy?

*I'm not sure how much difference there is between what Sheed said about DWade and what KG said about it being "like playing against **** MJ out there" other than that Sheed finished the thought that KG only implied, but everyone understood.  And KG kept his money....

No, he didn't.

No, he didn't.

he got fined, but one could argue if it was because of comments about officiating or his using inappropriate language.  personally, i think it was bc of a combination of both.

It's easier to give Sheed fouls because of his reputation. And sometimes it does look like they are biased towards him, while the more 'marketing friendly' superstars get the benefit of the doubt. Tim Donaghy talked about this things and I can't say that I disagree.

There really is no "Wade Factor" though.

What it really is called is "star treatment".

Each team can get it, each team with legit stars.

Sheed's willing to pay $35k in anticipation of Wade getting all the calls for Game 3 to make the series more interesting. He's willing to call the refs out to make the game easier on him (so he can be lazier while playing, lol) and he's trying to get a Celtics sweep so he can have the extra time off basketball to be lazy. lol.

BTW, I think this series is over. Wade called the Celtics a Bully. What chance do they have since he really feels that way? Certainly his teammates can't be confident if he's not.

Doesn't the NBA take monies that they receive from fines and donate it to charity?

If so, I wonder if Rasheed's comments can be construed as tax deductible? He KNEW he was going to be fined! So he said what he said to get something off his back that needs to be said by more and more NBA players and coaches until something is done about it(especially what he said in the second paragraph above) and was able to write a check that he knows will go to a good charity.

Very Good Samaritan of Sheed, don't you think?

Yeah, I agree ... I'm not Sheed's biggest fan, but I agree with most of this, especially the second paragraph.

Sheed has built himself quite a reputation in this league with officials. They all hate him because of the way he complains. He is constantly showing them up. Now he has to deal with the consequences.

I think he is right. They do bait him and he gets no benefit of any doubt. Unfortunately it is the bed he has made for himself.

Does anyone think at any point of his career, that Sheed said to himself, hey maybe it is me! Not every player gets shafted by the refs. Maybe it is my own actions that lead them to call me this way.

Going even further, maybe it is my style of play! Maybe I shouldnt bring my arms flailing down after a guys beats me off the dribble every time. Yeah I have quick hands and I get all ball quite a bit, but if I were a ref, it IS tough to tell if I made contact or not. Man, maybe I SHOULD change my style.

No...none of that has ever crossed his mind I can guarantee you. I know people like this and they are usually ultra talented and competitve. You can win with these guys but there are many pains along the way.
