Saw this over on the ESPN Boards

Quote
The context in which he said it was when he & Cowherd were discussing a potential Orl. vs. Cle matchup.  Charles said, "Cleveland will not even beat Boston they continue playing 1 vs. 5 with LBJ as their first option every time down the floor.

I think it will be Lebron show against the C's in the 2nd round and here is why.....

!) Perk , Sheed and BBD VS Shaq

These guys are all strong enough to give the C's the ability to play Shaq 1 on 1 without needing to send help and leave shooters like Jamison , West and Mo Williams open for jumpers

2) KG VS Jamison

I don't fear this matchup at all. KG has the length and athletic ability to stay with Jamison. On the other end of the floor Jamison is going to be matched up against KG where KG can just post him up and take advantage of his length . Jamison has never been know as a good defender.

3) Shaq and Jamison's FT Shooting

At the end of games are the Cavs going to want the ball in the hands of either of these 2 guys? Hack a shaq and jamison could work really well for the C's

4) Mo Williams

Not clutch at all. Frontrunner

I just think there are so many defensive matchups that favor the C's and I absolutely see Lebron going 1 on 5 many times in this series. Oh yea we also have a bunch of defenders to through at Lebron with PP, TA and even Daniels.

I actually really fear Jamison, because he is exactly the worst matchup for the way the Cs like to defend LeBron.  If KG were manned up and concentrating solely on taking Jamison away, then we'd be golden.  But against the Cavs, KG does more roaming/helping and Jamison can absolutely catch fire from deep if he gets enough good looks.  That's been bothering me since the Cavs traded for Jamison...I actually would have preferred that they get Amare.

Anyway, I still think we can win.  But Jamison's shooting, Varejao's D and hustle, and even Mo Williams hitting enough shots to go on a cocky tear are things that concern me in addition to LeBron.

I hate to jump the gun and look ahead at a potential CLE/BOS series but one thing we have to do better is limit Cleveland's second chance scoring, in particular, containing Sideshow Bob.

The guy outhustles us and has given CLE far too many second chance scoring opportunities for our liking.  You can't allow that team that many more possessions on offense because they will destroy you.

An effective Varajao is going to spell big problems for Boston.  We have to do a better job at knowing where he is on the court and contain when the ball is up in the air.

I agree, Jamison, and Varajao are going to be the difference, if the C's bring their A game against the Cavs.  If those guys play well, the C's are going to have an incredibly difficult time.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
This is why the future is the mystery and the now is a present. Lets worry about whether or not Lebron wins a championship if/when we play him

I agree with you here, and if you remember back in our championship season the Wizards beats us 2 or 3 times that season, even then Jamison gave KG fits .tp

Absolutely. Varejao's mobility for his size is absolutely a killer and provides a huge matchup problem for us. BBD, Sheed and KG just do not have the hops to keep up with him. The only way to really neutralize V is to attack him down low on the offensive end and hope that you draw enough fouls to keep him off the floor.

didn't he say not too long ago that the Cavs would win the title?  talk about backpedaling.  if the C's turn in a stinker in this series, we'll see if Charles flipflops again.

Perhaps not, but he usually just spews idiotic conclusions with little to no reasoning behind them.

I never want to see Sheed trying to guard Varajao.  But I think if the C's hold KG and Davis accountable for Varajao, the C's will be in good shape.

I honestly think they kept under estimating the havoc he can create.

If Glen hustles like he did in Game 2 and plays with that same sense of urgency (like he did last year in the playoffs when KG was out), then I think he can neutralize much of the Varejao advantage.

I agree that Jamison isn't a match-up problem per se, but it does force KG to stay at home more, which could make things a bit more difficult in containing LBJ. Hopefully, Pierce can man-up on LeBron with the kind of Celtic Pride he's shown in the past. Nobody can stop LeBron one-on-one, but in the past I think Pierce has done as well as anyone in containing him.

Re: the Cavs woeful FT-shooting, am I crazy for thinking that a Hack-a-Bron strategy in the last 6 minutes of a closely contested game would actually work?

Limits his ability to pump up the crowd with a big shot or a three. And chances are good he's going to miss nearly as many as he makes.

Just throwing it out there.
