Let's give the refs some props (while we still can)

It seems like every time the refs negatively affect a game for the C's, there are about 10 threads that pop up about how bad they did, and how much they hate the C's.  So I figured, we owe them this one.

This game was reffed completely in the C's favor.  Now, they weren't making the calls one way, however, they were swallowing their whistles in general, and allowing both teams to play very physical, and that hugely favors the C's.

I wanted to get this out of the way now, and let the refs (yes, you too Dick Bavetta) get a little credit.  That is how the playoffs should be called.  Let them decide it on the floor. 

And we can remember this thread when the "superstar calls" start showing up in the next few games, completely ruining the rhythm, and making the games near unwatchable.  At least we got one game, where the refs did not feel the need to control everything (lets leave the KG decision for another thread...).  That is one more game than I expected.

I agree with you pretty much, Chris, except for them not calling fouls on Miami when they pushed PP out of bounds double teaming him, which thus caused the Miami Thugs to start their little gang fight. But all in all, you are right. They backed off like they should during playoff games. Good point.

I was at the game, and I have to agree. Wade got a little star treatment here and there, but overall I think the style of officiating favored the C's.

The whole situation that led to KG getting ejected could have easily been avoided though. The refs just didn't act quickly there and it might cost KG a game.

Try standing in the middle of 12 guys crowding around you. See if your elbows don't come up. The fact is that there was a player on the ground in front of the opposing bench. The refs should have kept that area clear until a trainer came over.

If this is true, who is worried that the rest of the series will be reffed much more tightly because the league is worried about a fight breaking out?

Personally, I'll be a bit disappointed unless both teams have at least one player whistled for a flagrant foul at some point, but I like dirty play.

The majority of foul calls went our way for a change ... that's all the "props' I can muster, sorry.

One of the best reffed playoff games I have ever seen. Saw even calls. Pierce got hacked in the beginning. Perk got away with a goaltend. Thought everything evened out and that Ed Malloy was making a lot of correct calls. Props.

This thread is correct for the second half, but I have to disagree when it comes to the first.  Maybe the second half was better because someone said something to that dinosaur Dick B.  The first half saw the bulk of the whistles going to Miami while Baby and Perk were getting molested on the block and getting nothing.  Paul got mauled twice going to the lane... no call. 

Again, 100% agree when it counted, the second half, but had it been better in the 1st, the lead we overcame may not have been so large.
