Rondo expected to play in Game 1

Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo, who missed the active part of Friday's practice while battling flu-like symptoms, joined his teammates on the court for Saturday's morning shootaround, according to vice president of media relations Jeff Twiss.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers said Friday that Rondo would play Saturday night in Game 1 of their playoff series against the Miami Heat, and the point guard's presence at the shootaround is an encouraging sign that there were no setbacks overnight.

How many minutes Rondo will be able to log likely will be dictated by his energy level and condition at game time.

Rivers indicated that Rondo was "throwing up and everything else" Friday and the team sent him home from the session after he attended film study and a walkthrough.

The flu has been spreading recently in the Celtics' locker room, starting with Tony Allen, who missed the final two games of the regular season, and continuing with Rondo and Glen Davis.

"Yeah, [Rondo is] pretty bad," Rivers said Friday. "[Glen Davis] missed [Thursday's session], he's been sick, so whatever Tony [Allen] has, it's spread around the team right now. Rondo, we had him do film, then we did a walkthrough and then we told him go home."

Allen practiced with the first team in Rondo's absence Friday and would be the likely starter if Rondo cannot go. Allen deemed himself in better shape than previous days, and said he'd be ready for action Saturday.

"I'm readying myself to play as much as possible," Allen said. "This is the playoffs, anything can happen."

No surprise that Rondo will play, but how healthy will be I'm guessing we won't know until game time.

He just has to dribble up the floor and throw it down low to KG. Because tonight he's going to have his Coming (back) Out party against Miami's small front line.

I think even Rondo at 50% is 4x the point guard that Carlos Arroyo is, so if we lose tonight that shouldn't be the cause of it.
