Attending my first playoff game today, but I've never actually driven into Boston for a game (always taken the train in the past) ... The Garden's website mentions the Government Center Garage as a parking possibility; how early would we actually have to get there in order to guarantee a spot?

Any other suggestions/recommendations?

The larger public parking garages have plenty of space generally.

Have a blast.

I can't help you with the parking because the last game I went to was in '07 against the Bulls early in the season...

But I'm expecting you to bring all the passion and energy in the world at the game and let the C's know it by cheering as hard as you can for every second the game is going on!

Getting out of the Gov't Center garage will be a nightmare. I typically park near Boston Common and walk over. It's a 20 minute walk but if you can time it right, the meters shut off at 8. You'll save yourself at least $20.

I might have gone to the same game as you. I went on a field trip with my english class. Best field trip, ever.

As for parking, I don't really know. every time i catch a game I park far away from the madness and hop a metro.

Have fun though.

Depending on where you are coming from, Parking at Lechmere in Cambridge and taking the Green Line two stops to the Garden is the best way to go. $5.50 to park and $2 each way on the T.

if you don't mind fighting traffic (and potentially walking in the rain) you can find street parking in the gov't center area, just park after 6 and bring 2 dollars in quarters (meters shut off at 8) - I don't know why more people don't do this...

Was it the '07-'08 season and did we crush the bulls?

My father likes to park at the State Street Bank parking garage.  It's a bit of a hike, but you can get out of there quickly.

A great game, and (despite a slight mishap with the GPS) the drive into Boston wasn't so bad ... we also had a little trouble finding our car in the parking garage once the game was over, but that actually might have worked to our benefit; by the time we actually drove out, the traffic had already thinned out so making our way out of the garage wasn't as daunting as we had feared ;)

I've found the GPS is pretty much useless in Boston.
