I'll preface by saying I don't think this will happen, but it is time for the fans at the Garden to step up and blow the roof off the joint from the opening tip.  If the fans are going to boo the team to kick them a kick in the butt, they also have to be a loud raucous crowd.  I think the two go hand in hand.

Unfortunately, during the big three era, crowds have been terrible.  The Garden in game entertainment doesn't help either.  The music helps to drown out any crowd momentum.  I wasn't around in the days of bird but I vividly remember the playoff games from 2002 and 2003 and that place was crazy; truly befitting of its nickname the jungle.

I always get super hyped up during playoff time and when I'm lucky to attend a game in person I'm ready to go nuts.  These last two years I've been disappointed when i get to the garden and it just seems like any regular season game.

I know for the most part, the real fans have been priced and the Garden is filled with people who are there because it's the place to be, but I sorely miss the days when the fleetcenter sounded like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynvlEIxczOk

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ64tfHcIek

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bU84ew-aSmA

Back in those years the crowd definitely carried some of those teams to wins.  Frenzied was the best way to describe the crowd.  Lets go fans, pump up the volume.  Can you imagine KG playing with crowds like that?

Disagree with you that the 03 playoff crowds were better. I was there for the big 3 era and the Nets comeback era and I'd say they are on the same level.

I think it has been dead for the past few regular seasons. But the playoffs are a different animal and the crowds are awesome. The Networks could be drowning out the sounds more.

I don't know, when it comes to the playoffs the crowd always seems to look pretty rowdy. I'd be willing to bet the crowd will be as loud as ever this year.

But I never get tired of watching the young Paul Pierce. Thanks for posting those vids.

Me too.

Such a good player. I always felt he was underrated, especially during the early years.

I went to that 2005 Pacers game. First year with tickets as a kid. 12 years old. IT. WAS. SICK.

Also, [dang], remember when Jermaine O'neal was good, and Stephen Jackson was young?

Also: RAEF! I met him at basketball camp! Does anyone remember when he dropped 44 points?? It was awesome  ;D. He banked a 3 off the glass at the halftime buzzer.

EDIT: Actually, I was at the game 7 where we beat the Pacers... was that this series? Or was that 2004? The one against the pacers in the first round where we won. That was my first playoff series in the garden. We chanted "Na Na Na Na, Na Na Na NA, HEY HEY HEY, GOOOOOODBYEEEEE" and I was the happiest kid alive.

Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

'03 we beat the Pacers in the 1st round. It was actually a minor upset.

'05 we lost Game 7 at home really bad.

YES. Absolutely. He was 20 ppg scorer for 7 years from 2000 to 2007, and he scored over 25 ppg for 5 of those 7 years. That's insane. INSANE. Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson type scoring. The kind of scoring that gets you mentioned with the greats -- yet Paul is overlooked constantly when it comes to great players of the 2000's.

Oh... well that explains my fuzzy memory  :-X :-\

I was 10 years old. Forgive me!  :-\

the 2003 series then. It was epic. And Awesome. And we basked and reveled in the defeat of the hated Pacers and they're superstar (can you believe it???) Jermaine O'Neal. He took far too much time at the free throw line for our taste. :D We used to count to ten and get angry over the lack of a delay of game call. I'm kind of doing the rambling old man thing right now, which is really weird cuz I'm 17.

EDIT: I just realized that saying "cuz" in that really simply constructed sentence makes me sound like a dunce.

Also, watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qM2V0lzQ_IQ&NR=1

and skip to 3:42 to watch some Paul Pierce greatness. Freakin' textbook footwork. I model my game after this guy in his prime. As a point guard who isn't that fast, I have to rely on my big first step, my body control, and my strength -- just like Paul. Also, in that video above (^^^) Anthony Johnson at around 5:35 looks so YOUNG its crazy.

Here's a game from the 2003 series:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iUjwt7RDmAY

Tony Delk! What a bro!

And wow, Reggie got wrecked . No suspension there. Shows you what's happened to this league. Over-sanitization.

Side note: Antoine looks young and fit. That's good to see. So does Brad Miller. Brad Miller also looks like a skinhead, but hey, he's a cool guy so he gets a free pass, right? (Nope, dude's a joke).

Oh Young Antoine. I'd love to go back in time and warn you. I'd also tell Danny to keep him in green forever -- he became a blubbery clown, but he was our blubbery clown.

Also, towards the end of the above clip, the announcers say, "The Boston Celtics don't have a lot of talent, but they ride Walker and Pierce as far as they can". Yup. Sounds about right.

Bring back the "lux aeterna" pre-game music that they ditched after the championship year.

And bring back the fireworks. It was cool to see the smoky arena. Just made the game feel huge.

I disagree with you completely.  I was at game 7 of the bulls series last year, game 5 of the cavs series a couple of years ago and a couple of the hawks games, never were the crowds frenzied.  Back in 02 and 2003 i left the games with my ears ringing.  There is no comparison between the two.

It doesn't matter if the networks drown out the noise because I've been there in person.

A rare Saturday night game at the Garden should have a lathered up crowd.

Guess it depends on the games because I had a raging headache after that Bulls Game 2 last year until the next day. Also got to go to 2 Finals games and those crowds were absolutely frenzied as well.

Oh man I was at the 2003 series where we beat the pacers as the 6 seed.  I remember the chants vividly.  In addition to the one you mentioned we had the "we want jersey" chants going... Unfortunately they swept us, haha.  But at the end of the nets series i remember giving Antoine walker a farewell chant because we knew Ainge would trade him and he did.  It was a warm farewell for antoine.

There is no way you can tell me the crowds today are on the same plane.  Just watch the videos.  ESPN even called it the loudest arena in the nba in 2003 (yes i remember miscellaneous things like this) and i haven't heard anyone call it the jungle recently...  Lets bring it back!
