Interesting. I would imagine there was either some sort of roster bonus if he finished the season on the roster, or he did something that rubbed them the wrong way. I am sure there is SOMETHING more to the story. Not that it matters, he was gone at the end of the season anyways, and would not have set foot on the floor in the playoffs.
Well his contract was guaranteed and we already had a roster spot open. Maybe he asked to be waived so he can sign in Europe somewhere.
And Bill Walker doesn't suck. Everyone else, though. Yeah.
exactly. Walker's already showing some ability. Not many other players fall into this category. Pruitt and Giddens. That's it. GG and Telfair don't count-->both had minutes here to prove themselves (due to lack of options for Doc) and bombed.
Pruitt missed in NY so I begrudgingly gave Doc credit for that judgement call but Giddens has shown some flashes in NY. Not as much as Walker but some skills nonetheless. Seems much more comfortable on the floor now that he doesn't seem scared he'll be yanked if he makes a mistake.
I'll need more than a 3-person sample from which to begin thinking Doc can judge young players. Right now it's looking like 1 good call (Pruitt), 1 bad call (Walker) and 1 incomplete (Giddens).
Gerald really didn't play at all in his first season in the league. He did in his second year with Boston, and I think I'm in the minority that says he did look good then. He showed some real flashes in the little time he got, then about 3/4ths of his second year he looked great. Still like a dumb high school rookie, but certainly showed some glimpses. After that, however.. He lost everything, got traded to Minnesota, and that's about it for him.
And I've been high on Bill Walker since like 2006. I was stoked when we got him for nothing. Then, of course he never really got the same chance in Boston as Gerald Green did. Dunno why, but at the very least Bill Walker is going to be a good player in this league. Probably not all-star, but I'd still want him here.
