Perk says knee was bothering him for "about two months" before he finally sat out games this weekend.

From the Celtics.com twitter account.

Okay Perk, I appreciate the toughness factor of this but, really? Our players are ignorant, first Pierce coming back before he should have and now this? We do have an athletic trainer/staff correct?

Yeah this couldn't be more frustrating. He has been pretty terrible for about 2 months. What was the point of adding big man depth during the offseason if we weren't going to use it? Perk worried about Sheed taking his spot? I doubt it but honestly this is something that could have been dealt with a while ago instead of right before the playoffs

Exactly. The only reason I can think of Perk doing this is because somehow he thought he was helping the team. But after a game or two, maybe even three or four of being terrible, I would have at least thought he would have said something or someone would have said something to him.

Sounds like he is trying to use that to cover up for his abysmal play. I'm not buying it Perk, sorry.

I don't know what to make of this.  Sounds like Perk tried to tough it out when he shouldn't have.

Oh and TP for the update ohioceltsfan.  I'll have to give you it in an hour though because of how you're not allowed to give multiple TP's in an hour.

I admire Perk and his toughness but this is silly, he should have taken some rest a long time ago! What were the medical staff and Doc thinking?!

Perk played through his plantar etc so we know he's tough.  I think the team has done that this year with the injuries.  Daniels played injured, pierce, kg, rondo, perk and apparently sheed.  My guess is if everyone was healthy and the team was taking names guys would have been more willing to sit a game or week out.

But regardless, shouldn't it be common practice to rest unless it's a win or out situation? And even then, it doesn't seem like they've been very effective playing through injuries so one could argue that we would have been better off playing different rotations while letting our guys get better.

Eh, players play through pain all the time.  This is nothing new.  If they don't, they get treated like JD Drew.

I think Perk did the right thing by sticking it out until the team got things turned around a bit.  Now is an OK time for him to take a few games off, get some rest, and get ready for the playoffs.

Fair enough. Although, I still find it a little questionable.

Good points Chris.  I'm on the fence on this on whether he should have played and whether or not it was a good thing he played.

I kinda feel the same way, though he might just be chatting with the press.

Since so many players in the NBA have similar aches at this point in the season, it really isn't a big deal.

Most of the time, there isn't a single correct decision to be made. The choices are between multiple reasonable decisions. You have to make one and live with the consequences.

Pierce, for example, can attest to the fact that over his career he has played through many injuries and been no worse off for it. Yet he look really slow before he rested for his more recent injury.

We are so quick to try to look for someone to blame. Sometimes we need to realize that many decisions will always be essentially a flip of a coin. Sadly, if we were watching a coin-toss competition, 50% of the fans would brag after the event "I told you tails couldn't win!"

Since he didn't hurt his knee any worse, I don't really see it as an issue.

The team needed him on the court and he was able to be there.

Now, that they are more healthy with a long stretch of spread out home games, sounds like a good time to get rest for that knee so it is in the best possible shape for the playoffs.

I'd go out on a limb and say that every player on the active roster has a body part that's been consistently hurting for weeks if not months.

This is ludicrous guava, every sane man knows that tails NEVER fails.
