Honestly, it has nothing to do with being in shape. He looks slimmer and more conditioned now than he did during his last two years in Detroit. Wallace just doesn't have the fire anymore, nor the skill. Wallace somehow getting into shape and becoming a better player is clinging onto false hope.

This post assumes that the Celtics as a whole aren't playing poorly in the 2nd half.  Who on the team is doing well in the 2nd half of these games? Lol.

That aside, I think part of it has to do with his lack of conditioning.  It's not so much that he gets winded and misses, its that he leaves the post as the game progresses.  Most of this is him, but I think part of it is the plays they run.

I have no problem with 'sheed taking a three as a trailer ala McHale.  I also have no problem with the bigs being last guy up the court ie they get the rebound they are under basket an outlet pass they SHOULD be the last guy up.  Now when kg, leon or perk for that matter can beat there man up court !! bonus
I hate to say it but he is as key as paul, ray, kg, perk and rondo to our run at the championship.  His low post game, good passing is essential, he is our best big off bench, we need him to play hard d and rebound.  His low post offense is good enough to either score or bring a double down on him.  This should open lanes for cutters and he is a good passer, not kg level though or open jump shots.
I think he's always been a fringe great player who has never put the effort into being the great player.  Way back when he played his way out of portland but honestly should have been one of the top 3 or 4 pf in the nba.

As someone put maybe our expecations were just high.  I felt he'd be in the running for 6th man of year in nba and after this season I know he shouldn't get any votes AND if his playoff performance is what we've seen this year than danny needs to trade him this offseason

I read in ESPN the Magazine that Rasheed Wallace has the worst second half field goal percentage among all players who have played at least 200 minutes.  He's shooting 33% in the second half of games.

The ESPN blurb attributed that to Rasheed being out of shape, and I think there's something to be said for that.  He came into training camp with a noticeable gut, and began the regular season out of shape.  The excuse at the time was that he'd play himself into game shape, but to this point, he hasn't.

Do you agree that the low FG% is a fact of conditioning?  Is there anything the team can do to get Rasheed in shape, either for the playoffs or next season?

I think this is because of opposing coaches halftime adjustments.

If Sheed is working the ball in the low-post in the 1st half and having success, then the opposing coach makes the adjustment.

If he's hoisting brick after brick from beyond the arc in the 1st half, then obviously no adjustment needs to be made and the opposing coach allows the brick-fest to continue in the 2nd half.

If Sheed made a concentrated effort to work the post and take 1-3 shots from beyond the arc (maximum and only when the opportunity presents itself as opposed to forcing it) then I think Sheed would have a much higher rate of success at this point in his career.

I have no doubt that Sheed could be in much better shape if he wanted to be and that if he did get in better shape, that he would perform better on the court both in the first half and the second half.

He is just lazy; lazy mentally and physically.

What a disappointment.
