Maybe this should be in the current events area. I don't have a particularly strong opinion on this. It just strikes me as a heck of a lot of pressure to put on an 18 year old kid.  Also isn't it a little late in the recruiting season for this? The letters of intent have mostly been signed I think, so I think there are repercussions if they renege, and then where the heck would they go play? Maybe it could work for a top recruit, but for a kid that was lucky to get a scholarship I think they're barking up the wrong tree. It also strikes me a little odd to target athletes any more than say ...I don't know...the top chemistry student or chess player or faculty members and whatnot.

I don't know. There's no right or wrong answer

If I were a Black player I would have nothing to do with SC, even if I was from there.  Except for Charleston, it's a racist backwater.  I go there 3-4 times a year, and frankly I can't wait to get across the border into NC.

On some level I have to ask what the options are though. I mean would the guy be happy if they transferred to play for the Ole Miss Runnin Rebels? Or the Tar Heels?

and no racism exists in Boston? I am from Greenville, SC and I can tell you that progress is being made. Is it a perfect world? No but times are changing. SC is much more progressive than NC. Not even close.

Let's try not to make blanket statements about states, cities, or regions.  Thanks.

Racism exists everwhere, but in SC it is an epidemic, as evidenced by the state flag.  Of course, I'm surprised that your current governor did not try to replace the stars and bars with the national flag of Argentina.
