Gotta say, I miss a guy that will muck it up in the paint and give you a 6 and 4 in 8 minutes...all on free throws.

It's all about the post-season, which is why it never made sense to sign useless guys (Giddens, Hudson, Sheldon, if you're not going to use him) just to have bench bodies for the regular season...why not use that 800k on a guy that could really give the team something they're lacking down the stretch and into the post season, when it all counts anyway...baby gets stuffed all the time and needs 15 minutes to get his 6 and 4, and KG and Sheed keep getting further from the basket and our rebounding is terrible...

Miss the guy, and he was 1000x more likely to contribute to our post-season than Giddens, Sheldon, or Hudson, so why not?

That is the part I loved the most about Powe's scoring tonight.

The Celtics sorely miss that.

I miss Powe, as well, and wish he had re-signed.  That being said, I understand and agree with the decision not to give him a qualifying offer.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
maybe we should trade KG for Powe...and ask the Knicks if they'd take Pierce for Billy Walker.

And while we're at, maybe Gerald could be signed as well...

Oh yeah, and how about Ryan Gomes?

I'm not sure where the sarcasm in here comes from.  Leon Powe brings attributes -- both in terms of his game and his mentality -- that this team seems to be lacking this year.  Missing him doesn't mean that people want to commit to a youth movement.  Rather, they hold a warm spot in their hearts for a hustle player and top-notch rebounder that was a key component on a championship team.

I miss Powe too. Healthy or not. He was one of my favorite Celtics when he was here and he seemed like a really nice guy off the court. He's gone now and we have to roll with the dice we have. I do understand the logic behind letting him go but the problem is we didn't really replace the things he did well when we got Sheed - getting to line, offensive rebounding, getting the other team in foul trouble, hustling for loose balls - the kind of little things that can help a struggling offense.
Tommy: He's got a line about me. Tell him the line.

Mike: Everybody 60 or over knows Tommy as a player. Everybody 40 or over knows Tommy as a coach. Everybody 20 or over knows Tommy as a broadcaster. And everybody 10 or under thinks he's Shrek.

           Powe vs. Baby on 3/15/2010

min         8         15
points      6         4
+/-         +11       -15

we could have signed powe for the minimum (800 thousand?)
instead we signed Baby for 3 million.

People talk about the logic of not signing Leon. Huh???

Why, because he doesn't have the reputation and skills of  Rasheed ::) or Davis?  GMAB   Taking charges, getting rebounds, scoring points, and getting to the foul line, and oh yes, hustling, should count for something. Baby does some of that, I don't mean to discount his hustle.
Or was it a good decision because Powe would have been rehabbing till February? Well, if I'm not mistaken, it's now March and it's the still the 09/10 season, playoffs haven't started yet, and Leon is playing. So that argument is just shortsighted and stupid.
For the money that Leon signed for, he was a great deal. And well worth the risk.

Exactly.  That's a huge difference.  Did you see Rasheed standing around on defense?  And slapping at Powe when he could have easily blocked his shot?  Disgusting! >:(
