maybe insert sheed and quis/TA at the starting lineup.

your starting 5 would look like this

C:Sheed
PF:KG
SF:PP
SG:Quis/TA
PG:Rondo

first of the bench would be ray and perk. i suggest that doc utilize the backcourt of quis, ray and pp giving more time for rondo to run the 2nd unit.

may sound crazy but cant help it, ive been driven crazy by this team  ;D

So, if you're the coach and you are looking at a team that:

1. Shows almost zero effort a good portion of every night
2. That is unwilling to box anyone out
3. starts off the 1st and 3rd periods horribly.
4. Has it's main "go to guy" on offense (Pierce) looking like he is struggling massively.
5. That lacks energy and fire in general.

Let's play coach/GM, I'd be interested to see the choices people would make. Here's my short list.

1. I think KG and Ray are actually ok. Ray looks great actually and KG seems to coming along, works hard every night. Pierce, on the other hand, looks awful, something is not right.

So, #1, I sit Pierce again for a minimum of 2 wks to get right. I need him healthy for the playoffs.

Meantime, while Pierce is out...

2. I start Perkins / KG / Finley / Ray and Rondo. Let Finley come up to speed.

3. I play Perkins 35+ minutes a night but tell him I'm only giving him those minutes if he focuses 100% on D and rebounding and let's the offense come garbage style, like he should. We need more D and rebounding from perkins, not less.

4. Here are the "big combos" I work with, my rotations.
I NEVER, EVER, EVER put Sheed and Baby on the floor together at the same time. EVER. That combo is not good on the boards or defensively, at all. My big man combos are:

Perkins with KG, Shelden or Baby
KG with Perkins, Shelden or Baby
Rasheed with Shelden only. He and Perk are too slow, he and KG too old and he and Baby to lazy and bad on the boards. Rasheed's compliment is Shelden.

The Lion's share of minutes for the bigs are going to Perkins, KG and Sheldon. I want some real attitude, length and muscle on the boards.

For both Sheed and Baby, their minutes will depend on how physical they are willing to get under the boards. That will be the only criteria.

I want Rasheed at about 12-15 a night behind Perk only if he's willing to brawl under the boards. I want either Baby or Shelden behind KG

5. I'd basically go muscle up front and scoring on the wings.

While Pierce is out:

Perkins / KG / Finley / Ray / Rondo
Rasheed / Shelden / Quisy / Tony / Nate
Tough, fast compliment for Rasheed at Center

When Pierce gets back:
Perkins / KG / Pierce / Ray / Rondo
Rasheed / Shelden / Finley / Quisy or TA / Nate

I'd also, try rotations of:
Perkins / Shelden or Baby / Pierce / Finley / Nate
Perkins / KG / Pierce / Ray / Nate
Perkins / Baby / Pierce / Tallen / Rondo

I'd just try to put combos out there that are much longer, tougher and meaner on the boards and use my firepower with Pierce(when healthy), Finely, Ray and Nate for offense in the backcourt.

Rebounding is the number one concern to me though. I'd dole out minutes to all my bigs based solely on their efforts on the glass. I'd tell them straight up thats' the deal and there's the door if they don't like it.

I Want some real angry, physical guys on the glass at both ends of the court, that will solve many of our problems by itself.

Thoughts?

Like your big complements. I think the main thing is that one needs to be inside, and one outside, so:

KG with Perk/Shelden
Perk with Sheed (slow)/Baby (slow/short)/ KG
Sheed with Perk (slow)/Shelden (slow)
Baby with Perk (slow/short)/Shelden (slow/short)
Shelden with Baby (short/slow)/Sheed (slow)/KG
Scal with Bench (slow, but good intangibles)

I think the reason for Baby's poor play is that he is now being forced to be an inside big playing with KG or Sheed, while in his breakout during the playoffs he was an outside big (his natural style) playing with Perk.

Why? You think they could play worse? They're a laughing stock.

Why doesn't Doc play Glen and Perk together anymore? Doesn't he remember how well they played together last season? Either start them both, or have them Off-the-Bench. Sheed and Glen should be separated immediately.

Another change is go to TA early. This guy has a lot to offer. If he is having a bad day, you take him out. Simple: if Bad TA shows up (Bench Him) If Good TA shows up (keep playing him).

The Final change is rest Pierce. I'm more worried about PP health than KG right now. I like the idea of starting Finley. A good crash course for Finley to catch up.

P.S. For the last time, Shelden isn't better than Glen. Could we please end that discussion NOW!!

If I was coaching this team, I'd be working my way down to the unemployment line.

Oh I was just kidding guys. Ya'll would all make great coaches. I do tend to agree with 'Change' though and like your handle.

A couple of things that most here seem to agree on-

Take Perk out of the offense.
Sit and rest Pierce.
Stop playing Sheed and Baby together- Baby just can't get it done inside.

Couple of my own, less popular opinions-

More TA and less Marquis. Now that Finley is here, I'd see if he has anything left, and if he does, I'd put Marquis WAY back in the rotation.
More Nate. Maybe a roll of the dice with Nate, but at least he plays with some energy.
Less Sheed. I don't see how he's helped at all, in fact he's a huge part of the problem imo.

1. No way they fire Doc unless the team completely falls apart and gets swept in the first round.

2. Doc goes straight to ABC if he leaves the C's.  He would immediately be the best color guy on any national broadcast.

If I was the coach here is a list of things I would change.

1. Emphasis on rebounding. 4 People should be hitting the glass when every shot goes up. It should be Rondo who gets back unless Ray, Paul or Sheed takes a 3 (or KG takes a deep jumper). Right now when a shot goes up the one post player under the hoop half attempts to get a board and everyone else runs back.

2. When hedging on screens, attempt to stop momentum by switching so that the help defender keeps the offensive player between him and the basket. KG, Perk and Sheed are not quick enough to hedge out and stop penetration before the corner is turned. In other words they should attempt to stop the man with the ball when he turns to the hoop, not when he is going laterally. KG tries to beat the man to the spot and get between the ball and the sideline which when done correctly causes a trap that stops the screens. As of now none of our bigs are quick enough so they hedge out but the ball is already past them at that point.

3. Bigs, set screens for eachother in the post. When Sheed, Perk and KG try to establish position on the block they often don't recieve the ball right away which causes them to get pushed out to a distance a post move should not start from. If they ran set plays for the bigs to screen in the post it would be much easier for them to establish position.

4. There is no reason for KG to be in back court when the ball is being brought up by the other team. Not once this year has he stolen a ball by pressing. He needs to be ready to help defend immediately rather than having to sprint back down the court then play defense trailing or in line with the ball.

5. If a guy does not close out on an open shooter, (I don't care if the guy can't shoot putting a hand up makes every shot more difficult), he comes out of the game. I know these stars have big egos but it's about winning at this point not pleasing the stars of a team playing .500 ball for the last month. If a player does not crash the offensive glass, pull him.

6. Pierce recently has looked like he's lost a step. If KG and Sheed are insisting on staying on the wing to set up for open jumpers, post up Pierce. It would be nice to see the old Antoine to Paul post up over the top lob.

7. Run. The easiest baskets scored are when the team runs. Unfortunetly the only time this team runs is off of turnovers and some missed shots. If the other team score get the ball out of the hoop and push it. This might make our older players tired but we have a very deep team why not utilize it?

8. Finally have a meeting with the team and yell at them. Stress to them the importance of the end of the regular season. Coming from a coach like Doc who doesn't yell at his players that much this would have a huge effect.

Thoughts?

I'd make the C's use the TD Garden's visitor locker room and wear their *green* uniforms. I'd also have them sleep in a hotel room the night before each home game and bus them to the TD Garden just like it was an away game.

I might consider starting TA because he is always energetic. I don't care how many minutes he gets through the game. Then bring Nate, Ray, Quis, Baby, and Perk off the bench.

Inspire, motivate, refresh, lift spirits, intill strong will by example, prepare, sleep little, prepare more, work harder than I worked in 08, prepare, ask questions, be honest, demand more.
